lukebrynycz Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I have most emulators working except for the SuperModel3 one. My current onboard graphics card (Intel 946gz) appears to have OpenGL support added in 2008, and it shows as version 2.0 in a GL test, but I just couldn't get it working. I even tried adding the nospotlight shader as recommended in their help section, but it still didn't like it. I'm wanting to get a better graphics card. I have AGP on the board (Fujitsu Siemens D2660). Am I right in saying the max memory for an AGP card is 512mb? I was looking at this card, would this be a huge step up from my current card? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EVGA-GF-6200-512MB-AGP-GRAPHICS-CARD-/181169617397?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item2a2e8cf9f5#ht_3288wt_784
gigapig Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Anything has to be better than the intel chip. Have a look at these, I think these were the last cards before agp died. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PNY-Verto-GeForce-7600-GS-256-MB-AGP-Graphics-Card-/281151449966?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item4175eeab6e www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-ATI-Radeon-9600-XT-256MB-AGP-Graphics-Card-9600XT-1-Year-Warranty-/251320590236?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item3a83dfdf9c

I have just compared them on a known GPU checker and it would appear that the 7600 has the better overall spec. The ATI 9600 has a better clock speed but most other specs favour the 7600. Which one would people go for personally? One of the main reasons I'm upgrading is for Dreamcast and SuperModel 3 emulation so if either is known as better for these emulators it would be greatly appreciated! So these are basically the most powerful of the AGP cards before PCI express came back in?
gigapig Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 It sounds like you have quite an old system if your still on agp. If trying to run Dreamcast you may have trouble, but I can't realky comment if it will work or not, perhaps someone with a similar system can comment. I would spend £30 on a second hand card and try it, if its no good you haven't lost much and you can resell. Or if your even remotely thinking of doing a full upgrade then don't buy an agp card, save your money for pci express.

It's an older Core 2 Duo system, but it runs Dreamcast just fine with the graphics on the lowest setting and Model 2 perfectly. I just need the best AGP graphics card possible for this system and I think it will be just fine with Model3 games. Which of the above cards is the best do you think? I can't afford a new PC right now.
lukebrynycz Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=434&card2=550 Looks like the Radeon HD3850 is the best AGP card out there. What do you think?
gigapig Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 It may be, but finding one would be the problem. Ebay has them but the're either PCI-E or from the USA. You could put an offer on this one, depends on you budget. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sapphire-RADEON-HD-3850-512MB-256-bit-GDDR3-AGP-4X-8X-HDCP-Ready-Video-Card-/330986724281?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item4d10589bb9
Monyet Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 It would probably end up better than what you've got by something like 15% to 30% but it's still not as good as going with a more substantial upgrade. I mean if you're just trying make it work as cheaply as possible then you could a core i5 Haswell chip with a cheap motherboard and 4 gigs of ram. It would be much faster and the onboard GPU would be powerful enough for your needs. I would think it would probably not cost more than $300 to $350 -(well that's going on Aussie prices at least). That's just intel, AMD would have a cheap solution too, maybe cheaper. This is all assuming that your power supply is rated for it and the hard drives are not IDE based of course...
gigapig Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 This is the sort of thing someone here has in the attic. I used to have a 6800 ultra in the attic, which at the time was a monster of a card. I will see if it's still there. Here's a good cheap one finishing today http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7800GS-Graphics-Card-/111145864970?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item19e0cf4f0a Review http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-7800gs-confirms-agp-aint-dead,1213.html
Polemicist Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I still have an old P3 dual 1 ghz processor with 512MB of ecc ram and an 80 GB HD and a very old PCI graphics cards. It gets used as a test server for my evil projects and is currently running win 2003 R2 on one drive XP on another and a USB Linux build with some interesting tools. You can do some surprising things with old hardware. But still I wouldn't use it for an arcade machine. Intel i5, Nvidia graphics card a bucket of ram with a decent 2TB hard drive and I'll be happy.
lukebrynycz Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 Hey guys, sorry for the delayed reply. Turns out the machine I have has PCI Express x16 so I bought a Radeon 2GB HD 6770 DDR3. Does the job brilliantly. Spikeout has the occasional slowdown when changing areas, but other than that, it works perfectly and my PSX and Dreamcast emulation is soooooo smooth! I think another 2GB of RAM and it will be a great little machine. Now, the only issue I have is that Model 3 won't load from Hyperspin. Is that a common issue? I have to launch them from batch files manually when out of Hyperspin. My settings config points to the correct area, but when I try load a game from Hyperspin, it just goes blank for a second then goes right back to Hyperspin.

Odd that you to launch them from a batch file, all mine are zipped up and I'm using SUPERMODEL VERSION 0.2A as the emulator. Perhaps you have a different Rom Set?
lukebrynycz Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 I'm at work currently, but I could post my config when I get back tonight? It's the only emulator that doesn't seem to load from Hyperspin, but works fine from command line or batch :-(
gigapig Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Here is my list of Roms. The setup is exactly the same as Mame just set global, Default Emu and rom path. yes Please post your settings.

Cheers. The only thing I have noticed, is that the roms are in the emulators root directory, instead of in a rom path like the others, but the config file DOES reflect this. Perhaps worth trying to move them to the rom directory like all other emulators and modify the ini?
lukebrynycz Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Ok, here's my config: It tends to minimize for just split second, as if it's about to start supermodel, but then it just goes back to Hyperspin, and I can't then launch any other emulator until I log off my PC and back on again. It looks like you have set it up via HyperHQ and not HyperlaunchHQ. For this system you don't touch HyperHQ. If you are using HLHQ then post some screen cap of your settings. Or perhaps watch the Mame setup in my Signature, Which may give you an idea.
lukebrynycz Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Fixed it! It was the module for sm3. It was trying to enforce wide screen mode in a silly high resolution. I changed to 1024,768and disabled wide screen. I found the isse when manually testing from hyperlaunch. I managed to print screen the cmd window for the split second it errored :-)
potts43 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Do either of you have issues with starwars trilogy? When it loads up if I select the game on the left it gives a black screen...
