HyperSpin/Atari 5200

Hello all,

I'm struggling with the Atari 5200 in HyperSpin. I have it running successfully through HLHQ and externally with both mess and kat but the front end is proving difficult.

When loading through kat the emulator runs but complains: error loading rom image. mess fails to load.

What could I be doing wrong?

I'm using kat5200.ahk and MESS.ahk by djvj and corresponding emulators.

Just a gess, check if in hyperHQ (not hyperlaunchHQ) the Atari 5200 wheel is set to run with hyperlaunch.

I've tried it Normal and HyperLaunch. HyperLaunch flashes a black screen for a fraction of a second before reverting back to the front end.

I should also mention I'm using build mess150. Though this shouldn't matter, should it?

EDIT: I think the problem is with mess communicating with HS as there seems to be a few systems not working through HS. As before, they work fine in messui150. Proper doing my head in.

I've been using the Atari 800 emu for the 5200 games. Seem to work very well and more compatible than Mess. As for kat5200 -- could not even get that to work outside of Hyperspin. It's the only emu I've ever had a problem with.

not sure if you still the help but i just finished setting up 5200. also have around 170 working games for the system and custom wheel art made for them. i'm using kat 5200. don't set it to use hyperlaunch just set it to use the executable. i've been on the fence on to use kat5200 or mess, i feel that kat5200 has cleaner emulation but for games like kaboom you still have to manually go in the settings and turn on the emulate analog and remember to turn it back off for other games. i realize in mess the control settings are easier set up. but just couldn't decide on which to use. anyway for kat5200 in hyperspin hq just set it to launch the app. also to avoid issues i was having from loading from various file extensions i made every single rom an a52 file. no issues at all loading without the need for hyperlaunch.

Something to think about before spending too much time on Atari 5200, especially if you are using a cab, is how are you going to incorporate all the buttons the games require. A lot of people skip the system due to this issue.

Damn. Shift key on an 8 key layout would probably work but it would be clunky as hell.

I guess you could config the basics and use a numeric keypad like that http://bit.ly/1dZX4MJ plugged into a neutrix port on ya cab. Guess that is an option.

It was made to run 5200. But you will need a BIOS. Don't ask on the forums for them. Just Google.

I only use Atari 800 Emulator for the old stuff.
