nuker43 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I just got my hands on what appears to be a factory sealed Ecco the Dolphin for Genesis... now my question is.. is it real or fake? Did i just stumble on a resealed game? I will add some pictures and hopefully one of you guys can tell me if its real or not Thanks! http://i.imgur.com/2g8EosZ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Ah5cIbX.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Cqv3kYO.jpg http://i.imgur.com/1CSxsnT.jpg http://i.imgur.com/sIa85QX.jpg http://i.imgur.com/txywppm.jpg
Rain Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 That is a factory sealed game, the top is a dead giveaway. On resealed games they usually put that flap down, but factory the sealed around it so it could be hung on peg hooks. Source: avid Sega Genesis fan of 20 years.
nuker43 Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 Oh man that is some great news! Thank you!
zomboided Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 What's the value of this over a non-sealed, good condition game? I know people do pay more, but i've got to say, I'm a little confused as to why when by the very nature of it being sealed, it can't be played! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
THK Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Like action figures in a box. Collectors are just a weird bunch ..........................back with a vengeance........................
Polemicist Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Actually that type of resealing is pretty easy to do with practice. We did them all the time at a nameless Apple reseller I worked at. The machine was pretty expensive but you couldn't tell the difference when we sealed them back up. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
nuker43 Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 So is my copy resealed or factory Polemicist? is there anything you see in the pics that sets off alarms?
Polemicist Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 It is impossible to tell. That trick with the top is done by using the seal and cut on the bottom only and then using the heat gun carefully around the top. It looks just as you would expect it. No one can tell the difference. The only issue you would have is if under the seal you see damage but the same damage is not on the heat shrink. Basically it looks like you have mint in box. Fun trick. Heat shrink every item on a workmates desk. Even his pens ... individually.
gigapig Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Open it and find out . If there's a copy of E.T (2600) in there or a gold watch then you'll know. Your just itching to rip that wrapper off now aren't you?

So far the only copy of a sealed ecco i see for sale is some uncirculated one and the guy wants 700 lol

nuker43 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 more than the 8 dollars the game opened is getting that is for sure heh.. my friend owns a retro gaming store and he loves sealed stuff so im going to show him and ask him how much he would pay for one to get an idea. as far as i know its a selective market some people would pay more than others for certain sealed stuff. I just need to find an Ecco fan =P
