Dilated18 Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Just wondering which emulator people prefer for the sega 32x. I read that the picodrive core in retroarch has issues playing a lot of games. Im leaning towards fusion but have had issues with transitioning in and out of games in the past. I havent tried it lately so im not sure if there is still that issue.
Dilated18 Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 I never tried mame or mess for console systems. how do u handle the naming and matching a the art
pinsanity Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I never tried mame or mess for console systems. how do u handle the naming and matching a the art What does one have to do with the other? Art needs to match the DB names whichever emulator and for any system you use. Like most Sega systems I use fusion but to each their own.
Dilated18 Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 mame uses a funny naming system. doesnt match hyperlist. unless im missing something
Aorin Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Where did you read that emulating 32X via Retroarch isn't stable? They all run perfectly fine for me, it also includes the hacked Dooms for 32X and Sonic in Chaotix. Let me know if you need help. Aorin
pinsanity Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 You don't need to match it to the mame names though for it to work. If 32x is listed under your MAME setup in RL with the "32x" added as an extension it will work. I just tested it right now on my outdated Hyperlaunch by simply adding 32x as a recognised extension under the MAME emulator and the first game booted up with no other changes made in MAME itself, so it should be fine with the latest version of RL with no changes needed at all. Match everything (roms, artwork etc) to the official hyperspin DB and you should be good to go.
Dilated18 Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 I see wat u mean. I wasnt thinking of it as in mame database. I woulda used the 32x database and had a mess.

If retroarch is able to play sonic in chaotix, are u able to play knuckles chaotix? Thats the main game i wanted to play. I read in a few forums that there were a handful of games that had sound issues in retroarch but if u dont have any issues with it then ill definitely give it a shot.

Picodrive's sound emulation is pretty good. But you'll get graphical glitches from time to time and I've had it freeze once or twice.

rastan Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 recently removed sega 32x from my hyperpsin... i gave this system so many chances lol, but to be honest I had no connection to this system! I had Sega Genesis back in the day and always remember the 32x (just like the sega CD) was something nobody really even bothered get into... I realize some people did and they have a connection to that system... but for me it had to go.
Awakened Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Itcould be your video card coz I don't have this issue. Weird. I'm using a 970 with 362.00 drivers. i use genesis gx core lol emulates fine for me That core doesn't emulate 32x...
thcdgaf Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I used it in the past. to emulate 32x Sent from my LGL16C

kylecp1979 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I use retroarch 1.3 with pico core and have had no issues. I have also used mes and mame. As long as you have the right extentsion and right bios you should be fine.

Even on the Libretro wiki page for Picodrive they mention the graphical glitch in Chaotix: http://wiki.libretro.com/index.php?title=Sega_32X_Core_Compatibility

kylecp1979 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 The only glitch I get is at the player select in training mode the rest of the game plays great for me
Aorin Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 The only glitch I get is at the player select in training mode the rest of the game plays great for me I like this game despite of its reputation, it's an interesting game, this glitch won't affect the gameplay in any way. I'm getting together some nice hacks among consoles to a main wheel, and I've found lots of interesting hacks fore 32X, Sonic in Chaotix, he replaces Mighty, the armadillo, 4 dooms, one is Doom 64 ported to 32X, DOOM II for 32X and 2 expansions. That wheel sounds AWESOME!!! I haven't tried out any of those 32X hacks myself but sounds pretty cool. I'll have to track down those hacks. I was just pointing out the glitch cause there seemed to be a discussion getting started over it. It is a very tiny glitch and doesn't effect any game play at all.

I was a huge Knuckles fan when the 32x came out and got the add on and Chaotix for Christmas one year. I never got any other games for the 32x, but played enough Chaotix to get a decent value out of it. Looking back, I agree with people who say the level design isn't great. But the graphics and especially the music are amazing. Midnight Greenhouse and Evening Star are some of my favorite tracks. And the game has such a neat sound test for playing the soundtrack with
