KlopjerO Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Eya, What's one of your favorite forgotten classics? by which I mean a game that you remember fondly but for some reason people don't remember or don't talk about it.. One of my all time forgotten classics is Faxanadu, a side scrolling RPG platformer on the NES. It has an awesome plot, you play a hero who returns to his hometown(situated at the roots of the world tree) to find it nearly deserted, the walls are crumbling and nobody is there to greet him. Upon your arrival you are summoned by the king who is desperate for your help and sends you on a quest to set things right. As you progress the find out that the springs that gives the tree it's life have dried up and that the monsters you have been fighting are actually mutated dwarves. Need I go on??just awesome. The graphics are just awesome, the palette alone is, I dare say, unique to this game I have not yet played any game that uses this mixture of browns greens and purples. The backdrops are absolutely haunting and the monster design is this mash up of western Gothic horror meets Japanese fantasy. Again I dare say that I have not played a NES game that uses this style.. Then the music..ugh..the music.. Beautifully haunting...timeless.. So well composed to the surroundings.. It fits, its not just a score to liven it up..it accentuates the surroundings it adds to haunting creepyness when you travel through the mists, it's alien.. I love it. Yet for all it's awesomeness the controls and interface needs a bit of time to get used to.. But that in my opinion is it's only drawback. Faxandu is my favorite forgotten classic. What's yours? Polemicist Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Clive Barkers Undying http://youtu.be/emJ1nweouss I first played this many years ago at a mates place when another mate happened to be visiting and may have brought some medicinal green product with him that made the game quite freaky. Worst bit was I got told to use the headphones. When you hear someone whisper "Look behind you" in your headphones and you suddenly swing around to belt the crap out of someone only to find out it was the game you do tend to realise smoking that much green vegetable matter was a bad idea.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk Used to play this at a hole in the wall arcade when I got to my bus stop too early back in 95-97?. They had a few imports I hadn't seen before. I stumbled onto it a few months back while browsing my collection on my cab.
