Pac-Man Pack Theme (5.4MB): https://mega.co.nz/#!iwIRnBRQ!XinLKk...c25SI8HfPvXlC8

Pac-Man Pack xml (work in progress) (rev4): https://mega.co.nz/#!yhQllB5A!IP7C3Rw0WKeRdv98CHDLSFbDFtMbeK2kmtroAyXwiJs

This little project is going ok so far. My goal is to have a ton of just pac-man games in one 'system'.

If you look at the image here-I have a section named: "Pac-Man pack"

Each of the games you see launch through hyperlaunchhq and hyperspin.

I basically make significant use of 'alternate emulators' and point other emulator's rom paths additionally to my pac-man pack-where I have roms that are named with numbers like 0001 Atari 2600 Pac-Man. This numbering scheme is used to keep them in nice order on the hyperlaunchhq screen.

Yes-it was a good bit of data entry for the database xml :P Each game needed its own 'alternate emulator'. And each system (such as Atari 5200) had to point to another folder that contained a rom (I kept all the pac-man roms in one folder for easy renaming later on). I had to pick the right numbers so the list showed up correctly and in order. Tedious is the right word to describe it, however-now I can have a nice list of pac-man games to play from instantly-and the list stays up when I exit out, for instant access to another pac-man game.

The Rom names you have that are the *** System Name *** thing are you using artwork? You could in fact make separators with Wheel Art in HyperSpin. Just a thought. Personally I wouldn't add those to the DB but this is your setup so thought I'd make that suggestion. :)

The hyperspin part of it is non-existent...and those category names look awful in Hyperspin itself. It clumps together all the *** names. It is hilarious also cuz I have a program called: Hyperspeech-and it tries to sound out the asterixes.

I have to name pac-man like: pacman (or it won't say the word right either) :P

It is possible to not have the category names-but then I'd have to write out: Atari 2600 Pac-Man, instead of just 'pac-man'.

One way looks nice in Hyperlaunchhq-but ugly in hyperspin. And vice versa :P

If you are so determined to not use HyperSpin why not just get another simpler layout front end and use that with HyperLaunch?

Also I thought there was more versions of pacman out in the wild?

My other pac-man pack for xbox classic contains over 50 pac-man games (ms pac-man etc) across various consoles/arcade. There is likely quite a bit more than even the 50 I have there.

I just threw together a few hyperlaunchhq entries to show it here. I'm adding more as we speak-I just started the little project today. I just kinda wanted to see if people wanted me to share it later on. Or perhaps they'd like to have their own 'favorites' list that isn't bound to a single console.

When I'm in 'Sega Genesis' in hyperspin-you can press Z and it brings up the favorites. But what if I wanted to have a list of favorite games across different consoles? I don't see an option for that-so I made one that works for me at least.

I like hyperspin fine-I use it to view the gorgeous themes-but not necessarily to play games from. It is like a lovely museum to walk through and be amazed by all the artwork.

People can enjoy programs in their own way-right?

Other front ends in the past wouldn't remember my settings or after putting so much on them-they crash all the time. Hyperspin/Hyperlaunch/Hyperlaunchhq are very high quality programs. They automate a lot of the processes for launching emulators/games-with those awesome scripts. To say I'm a fan of hyperspin is an understatement. "Hyperspin" to me also represents all those scripts-and ease of launching (not JUST hyperspin.exe).

It appears that "Mame" is tripping up my little naming scheme :P I have to have the roms named like mame wants-or they won't launch.

Most other systems I can name the roms anything at all-and I can get them to run. Just thinking out loud here :)

Rom mapping sounds great! It is way over my head right now tho-I'd need some concrete examples before trying that stuff :P

Maybe after a while-I'll figure it out :)

Nice one, keep posting this stuff it's always nice to see any special projects members are working on. And sure it's fine to post anything here excluding roms of course.

Interesting to see someone actually using HLHQ almost as his frontend :)

Polemicist, a bit of OCD never killed anyone (I think)!

I may have something to automate all of this and include the rom map games.ini , as well as find media for it.

I know I was doing it for genres , using doms tool to create a multi-genre, running ahk script to make games.ini. Job done. Same process for game collections like "star wars" "pacman" "pinball" etc.

Will dig it out ...

Sounds neat Horsey-if you find this tool-please explain how it is used (perhaps write a very brief summary/guide) All of this stuff is fascinating to me :)

My first attempt at getting the intro to look decent on hyperspin was a disaster lol-it was all grainy and bad video quality. I obviously didn't have it formatted correctly-and it wasn't centered on the page-but if I keep tinkering I might be able to figure it out.

I have actual video footage from pac-man cartoons I can use as source material for the pacman cartoon intro-I just need to format it right-and pick the right media to base it off of. I picked mame's theme as a 'template'-but I really didn't know what I was doing either :P

My xbox one turned out pretty good tho-after much trial and error.

Rofl-everytime I get an email from a response on this thread-I always read it like:

"Omg-a dairy queen treat is waiting for me".

It is the words when you glance at them in your email that remind me of "DQ" :P

I'll try to guide you a bit, I try and keep it short & sweet. Use Dons HyperSpin tools for a nice visual way of doing this. Say I wanted to make a codemasters section I could use the list generator (as above). I've used a filter there on Amstrad CPC xml , codemasters. Can add whatever ones you like to an export list. Ctrl + A to select all and right click and add to export list. Or select one by one. By genre, its all there. Then I could go into Spectrum or whatever and repeat this.

You could use the list splitter tool here for manufacturer but just trying to show you that it can be done by picking & choosing.

This is the worst example by the way (purposely) to use rom mapping because roms from spectrum & amstrad are named the same (mine are anyway), and that will not work, but should save you before you try the same.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Try make some pacman xmls from systems. Save all of these separate. Keep the separate ones, name them by system and also make a new system by merging them with dons merger tool. This merged one is what will appear in HLHQ.

I have a script somewhere or even somewhere posted on this forum and will load them up and make a games.ini for rom mapping, and that's it, no renaming roms and all that gash but this list may stay red if you run out of folders to add in hlhq.

Probably will be easier to read the system exe tag from the merged in script. I'll find her.

After you have your merged xml , drag & drop it onto the exe. It should create the rom mapping games.ini.

Oh btw. I seem to be confusing rom mapping with an "alternate emus" multi-system xml. That games.ini should go in the hyperlaunch settings "pacman" folder.

Edit: Fixed this issue!

I went into HyperHQ-and on my Pac-Man Pack Wheel:

I chose the option: Roms Only.

I open up Hyperspin.exe-it shows pac-man pack...I open up pac-man pack, and...

Hyperspin crashes on me! Can someone help? It has done this to me in the past also.

I don't want to display my 'categories' on the wheel. Does 'Roms only' in HyperHq work for other people without Hyperspin crashing?

Posted

I set the wheel filter to: 'wheels only' and the pac-man pack won't open.

Edit: I just got it fixed! I looked around the forums for an answer-and found it :)

Excellent!

I had to set the rom path in hyperhq-didn't realize that.

This is the problem with making custom XML files. I didn't think that would work in HS and based on the way you talked it sounded like you would just use HLHQ for everything so I just left you to play.

I couldn't use a file like that as I'd suspect the **** characters would cause headaches. If you say you've had this issue before I'm betting it was on wheels you used a tool like hyperrom2xml or an XML you manually edited?

Posted

The custom made xmls I just borrowed off other xml files-and copy pasted them-and filled in the fields differently.

I had the issue with crashing before because frankly I was a newbie (still am).

I'm sure my past issues wouldn't have occurred if I set up the hyperhq correctly.

My pac-man pack is looking pretty nice now (I just cobbled together various images and videos from the sources I already had-and renamed them). I go into Hyperspin now-and it only shows only the roms I got-and I got the various mame themes in there-and a few atari 2600 videos. I'm on the right track here (for what I want).

I still have no intro :( I'll see if I can make one look kinda nice.

Thanks for responding to my posts Polemicist :)

Here's my really ugly xml file right now. Don't laugh too hard-it is a work in progress:

Pac-Man Pack xml (revision 3): https://mega.co.nz/#!bwwSlQTJ!T_QM4iSdAtIIEB8sU5gUTjwCjZ8Q0YLqTlyPOxVwBIA

It works fine in hyperlaunchq-and I fixed the crashing issue in hyperspin. It now only shows my roms and not 'categories'.

Did I mention this was a work in progress? And I'm a newbie :P I'm still editing that xml file A TON-until it all works how I want.
