Takaji Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I'm trying to play Cliff Hanger (cliffhgr) through MAMEUIFX 0.171, and I'm having a problem where the Laserdisc video is not being rendered. The non-Laserdisc video graphics (title overlay, coin counter, etc.) all display correctly. Sound is working, and controls work as well. I came across this thread where someone had a similar problem: http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=339230&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=&vc=1 I tried changing hlsl_enable to 0 in mame.ini, but it didn't change anything. If I can't get it working, I might as well delete it, since it's a 13 GB CHD file. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
Metalzoic Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I didn't think any of the Laserdisc games worked in MAME at all. Everyone runs them in Daphne.
Takaji Posted May 13, 2016 Author Posted May 13, 2016 Currently, Cliff Hanger is not included in the Daphne list of playable games. (I can't remember why, but for some reason it's disabled right now.) I'd prefer not to use Daphne just for one game, and according to the link I included, it should work in MAME... kylecp1979 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Does your cliffhanger chd file have the same name as your rom?

I run all the laser disc games through Daphne, including Cliffhanger which works. I was always told LD games didn't work in MAME so I've never even tried one of them. You guys are saying they do work? Strange that Daphne is always recommended and MAME never really mentioned for LD games then. Sent from my SM-G935V
Dime333 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Only a few of them workds in MAME. I think Cube Quest and Fire Fox are the only ones that are not in Daphne. I have those games in my Laserdisc (Daphne) wheel and use MAME as an alternative Emu to launch those games.
volumetric Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I know when running firefox in mame the LD wont display when running either hlsl or glsl. Cliff hanger will run fine in daphne, the downloader just doesn't provide you with an automatic download.

Looks like I'll be setting a couple more games up in my Laserdisc wheel. I've never even herd of Cube Quest, but have wondered why Firefox was missing.
Takaji Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Does your cliffhanger chd file have the same name as your rom? Yep. It's not a question of a path error, otherwise MAME would tell me I know when running firefox in mame the LD wont display when running either hlsl or glsl. Takaji Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 I just tested it on my setup and it worked. When I had glsl enabled though I would get overlays and stuff but not the video itself, so I had to disable glsl for it to work. Thanks for the invaluable feedback! Next question since I haven't had to do this before: Is there a way to disable glsl for only one game? A quick check in RocketLauncherUI revealed nothing.
Takaji Posted May 15, 2016 Author Posted May 15, 2016 I believe that you can create a game specific ini and as long as you've set the path to your ini folder and it's named to match the rom RL will load it. I've never tested it though so I'm not positive, just vaguely remember hearing about functionality like that. Edit: Just checked and there are per game settings in the module on the Rom Settings tab where you can disable glsl, so the ini thing isn't necessary. Ah I was looking for it in the wrong place - thanks! I still can't get any video to show though - I have both hlsl and glsl set to false, and even everything else set to false, too. No luck :/
volumetric Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I think i had problems like that as well. I think it came down to RL overriding my settings for some reason. Try running the game directly from mame (with hlsl/glsl disabled for that game double checking you have an ini file in your mame ini folder named the same as the game). If it works there and not in RL/HS try messing around with the per game settings in RL.
