Shield TV: hyperspin immediately closes

I have a shield TV. I have a micro SD installed with a hyperspin directory which contains a settings and emulators directory. I got the android settings from the forum. Inside the emulators folder, I Ave various folders like mame, Nintendo entertainment system, etc.

I've also got retroarch installed. Just screwed around with that for a few minutes and it seems that it sees my mame Roms just fine.

How can I troubleshoot hyperspin? I've cleared data and cache and reinstalled.

Your Hyperspin folder should have the following folders copied from a PC installation

Hyperspin Folder

- Databases

- Emulators

- Media

- Settings

You can then

1. Adjust your databases to order and display everything how you want

2. adjust your artwork in the media folder to display how you want

3. Add your rom folders to the emulators folder or you can keep them somewhere else

4. Adjust your settings files to launch you emulators and adjust your rom path to wherever you have your rom folders stored

AH! Thanks for this. I only had /Settings and /Emulators.

How can I go about setting up the database and media folders on through OS X? Is this even possible?

Oops

Yeah def possible

I will post up a default Hyperspin folder for you to help. If you can wait a day?

You need to view/edit text .ini files and xml files so as long as you can do that you are fine.

It can wait. But I really want to get my Street Fighter on!

Hyperspin wont emulate anything!

what are you using to play Street Fighter? I would say MAME4droid is easier to setup for standard arcade games.

Just thought of a way for you to crack on

1. download hyperspin1.3.3 from the downloads section

2. Download any database's you want from hyperlist.hyperspin

3. get the settings_android.ini pack from download

(adjust the mame settings.ini to the settings listed in the tested emulators sticky thread

4. put your roms in and rompath to settings ini.

5. copy over to Shield

Setup MAME4droid or retroarch

Play Street Fighter

Play Street F

I've been able to get Hyperspin to open, it shows some options for consoles, but every time I select a console it says each game in the listing is not available. For MAME, I click it and it tries to load a MAME menu and doesn't and reverts back to the console selection wheel.

Not sure whats up. My databases? My folder path is right, but maybe my Settings don't point to the right path. Anybody have any input?

can you post one of your settings files?

does it say "Atempting to Launch Missing ROM"?

missing roms is usually the wrong file path to roms folder or the incorrect extension for the rom files you have.

not sure if i understand your mame problem

When I select Mame, no titles come up, and the Emulator reappears.

To clarify: I believe I have two issues. Probably resolved by settings.

1. My ROMs aren't showing up.

2. When I select NES for instance, I can see a list of games but everything says not installed. Even ones I know I have installed. When I select Mame, nothing happens. No game list. None of my ROMs.

Under your (filters) section in the mame ini change

themes_only = true

Themes_only = false

Then need to sort your rompath I will put some more info up later.

Have a look at the pinned thread for setup hyperspin android in this forum

So, this worked. I was able to at least load the MAME menu. Unfortunately, I am still unable to load any ROMs. I guess it's a ROM path issue, but I've been trying to tweak it and it is not working.

Should not make much difference to your problem but worth changing this line

Taken from pinned setup thread

userompath=<not supported, it's always "true">

You should have

Userompath="true"

Rompath wise

Where are your roms stored?

When I setup mame my roms had to be within the mame4droid/roms folder not Hyperspin/emulators/MAME/roms

I have everything on the internal hdd of my shield and all of my rompaths start like this

Storage/emulated/0 or something similar

That would only be the case if you choose "Deafult Mame Path" when prompted on the very 1st launch of mame4droid.  Instead you can choose your own mame path by saying no, or after the fact by going into the settings.   I have my setup running from the "Hyperspin/emulators/MAME/roms" and everything works as it should.

hmmm.

I have a 128 GB MicroSD in my Shield. I am using it as removable storage.

On my microsd called "SHIELD", there is a folder called Hyperspin.

Roms are located:

storage/sdcard1 (aka SHIELD)/Hyperspin/Emulators/MAME/roms

(Come to think of it, maybe I have an issue due to case sensitivity. I think my folder is actually Roms.)

In the ini, I just kept the settings the same as what I downloaded from the hyperspin downloads.

userompath is currently set to false. I will change it to true.

the actual rompath is Emulators/MAME/roms/. I thought that would work.
