Services you just turn off. But problem is you would have to test it with every major emulation to see what effect turning it off has as some things may seem unneeded they may turn out to be tied into something essential. Windows is a bitch that way.

No need to turn off services in particular. The boot up sequence, on a SSD, won't be speeded up much by this.

Apart from choosing the "no sound" scheme in the sound panel, and disabling autorun for CD/DVD/USB devices, I'm not sure what else can be taken off?

Some process or services are launched at windows startup, but useless for a cabinet (like printer, network, COM...) The idea is to disable all of them with a program.

Just to have more quick system as possible. Maybe not visible with huge computer, but really interesting for a modest CPU.

Ok got it :)

So you would normally do that using msconfig and set programs or services to not load on startup.

Like polemicist said, it may be best to do that 1 at a time anyway to make sure turning it off doesnt break any thing.

Also have a look at Autoruns from Sysinternals. It will show you which services and other tasks are loaded at startup. The whole Sysinternals suite is great for peeking & tweaking under the Windows hood.
