Looking for AAE information

I thought I'd give AAE a shot for vector games, but I can't seem to get recent ROMs to play. Anyone have any advice?

Here's my log as I was trying to launch Black Widow... really hoping I don't have to go into each ROM zip and rename files. Wouldn't play with a file missing error. ROM is from the 0.175 MAME ROM set and works fine in MAME.

The AAE emu is built around an old rom set so you'll probably have to find those specific roms to run properly. I have no idea which version it is, but the last update to that emu was ~8 years ago.

Yeah I know how old it was, but felt like screwing around with it. I was just wondering if anyone had a trick or two to make it work with newer ROMs. I'll see where I can get.

As I'm sure you know, using newer ROM's doesn't bag you anything and IMHO all you get is a fuzzy mess.

The new versions of mame with the better shaders make the games much closer to what they should look like on the actual arcade machine.

We all like to mess around with software though.

I personally prefer AAE over MAME just because I couldn't get the video in MAME to look as cool as it does in AAE.  Note this is probably a user issue not an issue with MAME's shaders.

But a couple of points: 1) If using rocket launcher, check out the module notes.  There is a "bug" where the latest AAE, circa 12/13/2008, has an issue if using vjoy or a joystick is plugged in.  You have to fall back to an earlier version if you need those parts.  2) I have a 360 using xpadder - it worked, note the past tense.  I haven't figured out what I did to break it, but if I do I'll post the workaround.

Holy god this has been my problem all morning!?!?!? I usually have my 360 pad plugged in while working on it, but I had done some sega stuff and my pdp fight-pad was plugged in....

My whole system had a melt-down during the last windows 10 update the other night, so I've been dealing with crazyness from that... thought for sure I did something there.

Is there anything lost in switching to an earlier version? 'cause I'll have a controller plugged in when I'm finished almost all the time.

On a frustrating, but kind of related note, this exact problem occurs with Ghostbusters the Video Game... weird.
