hi i hope this the correct place for this question which has probably been asked a 1000 times so here goes 1001 .i was hoping that somebody could explain in the art boxes what actually goes in which box or does it matter because the other day i downloaded a set with spinning cds and they looked very good indeed but the problem was that they was supposed to got into artfolder3 which i coudnt do as some had the same names so i guess my question is do the artwork boxes matter as long artwork is in them or does there have to be a special order IT artwork1 = CDs

Artwork 2 = Boxart

Artworks = cartridges

Artwork 4 = 3D versions of said artwortwork

i guess the rest of the boxes are self explainitary and do not require any advice or directory but for those mentioned some help and guidance would be appreciated..................thank you for reading AK45

All depends on the theme you are using, but you can put it in any of the artwork folders that will work with the theme your using to match the way u want it to look.

Generally artwork 1-4 are just layers, so 2 will always display above 1, 3 above 1&2 and 4 will always be above the other artwork.

So using that as a guideline, you can have box art in artwork 3 and cartridge art in artwork 4 so they display over the box art.

It's best to open up the theme.xml and see which artwork folders it's using and from there place the art in the appropriate folders to display how you want it to look

thankyou that makes sense to me so basically whoever has done the artwork unless they say where the art goes IE boxart two etc then it is trial and error

I wouldn't say complete trial and error, most of the themes I've used and played around with most creators have stuck to artwork 3 and 4 for box and cartridge/disc art, but you don't have to stick to those standards either, you can play around with it, mix and match to find a style you like, and you can also edit the values in the theme.xml to move the position and angle or rotation to suit your liking too

The artwork and the theme aren't always created by the same person. Is why you get this issues. It's not always obvious.

if you look in your Media/SYSTEMNAME/Themes folder you will have a default.zip and maybe zips named after the games if using those.

you can use HyperTheme to load those zips up and see what the settings are for artworks but "how to" info on Hypertheme is sketchy.

what I do, as battle donkey said, is unzip the default theme. Look at the theme.xml and see what entries it has for artwork 1,2,3,4

also if there are some images in the zip they will take up normally Artwork 1 & 2 thus making box/cart artwork 3 & 4 respectively

I have found the odd theme that actually has no entries for artwork other than the logo artwork included in the theme so it would never display box/cart art.

basically the theme.xml tells you what art is allowed for and where it gets placed in the screen so if something doesn't line up for you just change the values to your needs
