angryfruitsalad Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 I'm trying to get joytokey folder not to be read only but every time I uncheck read only in the properties folder It resets ack to read only; I've done this to the parent folder and it still sets itself back to read only. So now when I configure joyto key, close it and open it up, I get the welcome message and all the configuration is lost. Although the folders are saying read only, they're not, I can do anything an admin can with any folder. Has anyone found how to fix this?
Metalzoic Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 No idea. Can't say I remember anyone else with that issue. Did you already read through the J2K tutorials to see if it mentions that?
angryfruitsalad Posted August 13, 2017 Author Posted August 13, 2017 Joytokey website says to right click folder>properties and uncheck read only, nothing about why the folder reverts back to read only.
j5coat Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Windows 10 by chance? I was having the same issue with a new install of hyperspin. This might help. https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/windows-10-read-only-problem-has-a-solution/
diskmach Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Yeah, I think that is why I came up with my own control system, see my signature. I never found a solution for that. But maybe didn't try hard enough, I'm a bit surprised that more people don't have the same problem. This might help. https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/windows-10-read-only-problem-has-a-solution/ Yes, windows 10 (surprise surprise). Looked there sometime ago, it didn't help me. What I have found out from searching about is this: According to a Microsoft Knowledge Base post:You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders To summarize, Windows ignores System or Read-Only settings on folders (it does not ignore those properties on FILES however). Individual applications that you are running may not ignore the Read-Only status on a folder and may give an error. In my situation, an application was attempting to create a new file in a folder that was marked as Read-Only and it honored the RO setting and refused to try to create the new file. Am I able to use joysticks and buttons in hyperspin without using a key mapper? If so, how'd I go about doing that?. do I need to config all emulators also?
gigapig Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 I've not had any issue with W10 and J2K and I have it installed in a utilies folder within the Hyperspin folder. I have however had issues with folder ownership and usually follow something like this. http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-take-ownership-and-get-full-access-to-files-and-folders-in-windows-10/
angryfruitsalad Posted August 16, 2017 Author Posted August 16, 2017 Something I've noticed with jtk, opening jtk and registering it seems fine;, play around with assigning a function ie up/down and save also seems fine. I've put jtk in H:/Joytokey. when I add jtk to rocketlauncherui and then create a profile, jtk opens and isn't registered and I get the welcome popup. If I click on file>open file folder in explorer then the path is H:/Hyperspin/rockerlauncher/profiles/JoyToKey/RocketLauncherUI. I can create and save a profile but when closing and opening jtk I'll get the welcome popup and it's not registered although opening up jtk on it's own states it is registered! I'll try what gigapig posted and see what happens, maybe send jtk to my C: drive.
angryfruitsalad Posted August 17, 2017 Author Posted August 17, 2017 So, tried what gigapig posted and unfortunately no joy. tried the whole fiasco on a win 7 pc and still won't save the register, wondering if it's something to do with all my hyperspin being on an external drive.
BATTLEDONKEY Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Have u had joytokey installed previously? Different folder or drive? I had a similar issue and after some googling I found someone with the same problem. Joytokey saves some settings in your registry (damned if i remember where n what to delete) but once I deleted it, joytokey was able to find the config/settings in the new location
angryfruitsalad Posted August 17, 2017 Author Posted August 17, 2017 So, should I delete any entry in the registry and re install?
angryfruitsalad Posted August 17, 2017 Author Posted August 17, 2017 Ok, so I fixed it. Deleted any entry of jtk in the registry, unzipped jtk again. Ran jtk and still had the same issue, so I took a look at the ini file, top line says key=, entry was blank so I entered my registry key, that fixed the welcome popup if running jtk as is and not from rocketlauncherui. Running jtk from rocketlauncherui I still got the the popup welcome message. In jtk I clicked on file>open file folder in explorer, copied ini file from installed location H:\Hyperspin\JoytoKey to (in my case) H:\Hyperspin\RocketLauncher\Profiles\JoyToKey\RocketLauncherUI, and now no welcome popup window. Seems there needs to be the jtk ini file in that location for some reason. I have no hair!
