Demul Issues - Slow, etc

I think you're being confused by the name of the label on the control. The reason why those bugs happen is because auto sorting is turned on. When you disable auto sorting and force the emulator to calculate it instead, it fixes the problems at the cost of the extra calculations making things a little heavier.

I don't use Demul for Dreamcast, only for Naomi and Atomiswave.

I'm not sure hows right, I think because of the way the hack is labelled it's confusing.

Here is "Disable Auto Sort" Checked

It lucky that these settings can be made on a per game basis.

Thankyou. I knew I wasn't going crazy. If it's labelled incorrectly in the emulator and and checking disable auto sort actually turns it on, then that is yet another major bug in Demul.

And yea I agree with the post a couple above about the way the emu continues it's retarted development and it's dx issues.

Sadly, the Demul devs seem very arrogant and just do as they please and barely release updates.

Anyone else have the graphical issues in virtua fighter 4? its like there are missing graphics were the characters limbs join.

I have a laptop with sli gtx 880m and it runs fine x2, and x3 with some games, with dreamcast if layers are higher than 32 i cant go higher than 2x.

For Naomi?

If I have "Disable Auto Sort" checked the graphic corruption is much worse, but the cut scenes are quite jerky either way.

Yeah with naomi, I dont have anything checked, I just have x2 res, and 2 pass fxaa on filters, it looks ok until i go full screen then its looks weird with all the missing graphics.

I opened a ticket related to dx11 performance, let's see if they are not such a dick this time.

edit: they are dick indeed, took it down too. I quote the answer:

do not enable vsync or 2x, or disable autosort

Order Independent Translucency (OIT) is really resources greedy thing, even for modern highend GPUs.

for example Tombraider's TressFX uses OIT too and requires high as hell resources.

so its not regression, there is just no other way or method to emulate PoverVR2's hardware onchip translucency sorting using modern PC GPUs.

We have an unsupported plugin (dx10) and a plugin (dx11) too demanding to play, good move (applauses!!).

well, here is an update. I just installed my new shiny card, GTX 750 Ti SC 2Gb, and now I can run demul with 2x resolution, but for that I had to do a few strange things.

-First test on 2x was running choppy like with heavy frameskipping, so oddly enough checked vsync on a whim, and now image was smooth as silk.

-Then moved to Dreamcast and the problematic Jet Set Radio. I was getting slow downs in some parts, specially when Gum was talking on the tuto part. Checked settings and "disable auto sort" was checked, unchecked that and it went MUCH better, it had some minimal slowdowns still on marginal cuts or places, but nothing to worry about or refraining from gameplay.

It's odd that checking on settings that adds load to your card actually make the game go faster. But that's it and hope it helps somebody, also on the decision of what card to get. Probably for demul you would want a bit more power like a 760 or 770, but I'm happy with mine, demul is just that horrible of an emulator.

edit: update, in some games it still runs slow, for example, Demolish Fist, when you enter second stage it will run slow, until you disable VSync and then it will run real time but very choppy.
