The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Start from Scratch?

Last week friend took delivery of long awaited bar top machine, it has an older version of HS installed and a separate version of Mame...

Both are accessed via shortcuts on a Win7 desktop. Hs is running about a dozen emulators with about three or four of them actually working.

Paid extra for RGB sticks and buttons but there is no sign of LEDBLinky software and once an emu is selected the buttons never light up again.

I have gone through most the HS emus and only a couple work... buttons are dead on the others.

There is zero support from the supplier and to be fair I don't think the vendor is too software savvy and trades more on the custom graphics.

i am confident that I could achieve more with the tutorials I have watched... Not too sure about LEDBlinky but theres time for that later if I could get a full clean HS install on.

I have studied the amazing AVAR tutorials and can see huge holes in my friends setup even for my limited knowledge and was basically wondered what people would do?

Sell it as a work in progress or maybe  would starting from scratch with clean downloads take long?

Thanks for anyone looking and your feedback

Selling HyperSpin/emu/ROMs is generally frowned upon in this community, for both legal and moral reasons. No one is going to advise you to sell it, I can tell you that.

If you want to fix the broken mess that your friend bought, you're looking at quite a bit of work (probably a couple of months of spending all of your free time, at the bare minimum). HyperSpin is great, but it is not quick or easy.

In some ways it is almost better to start from scratch, because if you try to fix what's already there, you'll have to troubleshoot problems you probably wouldn't have had to otherwise.

Thank you both for your speedy replies.... and the reminder re selling etc...  sorry I didn't phrase the question more appropriately :(

Interesting, the differing of opinion but ultimately something better than what he has could be established within a reasonable time by the sounds of things. My biggest fear would be leaving him with nothing but a fancy Win 7 box :).

I will see if he will let me at it...  I will watch the tutes a few more times and maybe make a process map of each key stage...

Thanks again :)

If I had bought something that did not work as intended I would send it right back and contact PayPal or the credit card company if the seller was not responding.

I have looped the tutorial vids and I am so impressed with AVar's presentation skills, feel like I could do much with these at hand :)

I will gather the items needed before I start, LED Blinky maybe the final thing I will consider....

I am considering getting a windows machine just to test this in as I only run a Mac,Though boot camp is an option... will think about that one.

I can see how just setting up HS and Emu's itself could become addictive, let alone the hours of gaming it could provide.

As for taking it back, lets say it's not going to happen, company exists but maybe best I do not go further with my thoughts on this

I sincerely appreciate all your time and responses, thank  you so much :)

@Spong and if you want to add a more attractive visual to your setup, look up for Retrohumanoid, to add the hyperpause media for all these systems.

Anyway, I hope you are single because that is addictive and will take you a loooot of hours . Been there done that ;)

In my point of view it will depend how much you understand the rocketlauncher structure. I don't know what systems you have there, but if I were you, I would try to use an overall emulator like Retroarch to use it for all the 16 and 32 bits systems. MAME emulator for MAME, neo geo, etc.

@badboo thanks for the info and advice, very much appreciated... :)

I am less than a noob right now and I fear asking questions may see raised eyebrows all round :)

I have never installed hyperspin or Rocket Launcher etc, I am happy that I could achieve the basics and install and add Emus... I would hope familiarity would come through using the programs...

As for systems, none yet, thought I would try installing on a laptop to see how far I can get before I need a box with bells whistles and light :)

Friend has managed to find a new home for is machine and is looking elsewhere for its replacement... indeed further into Europe.

Will read up on Retroarch, have had a quick squint... Retrohumanoid is also something new... o dear... :)

Thanks again all

@Spong no worries, don't be afraid to ask. Just do a search first of whatever you are looking for, in case someone has already asked, and you can use the same thread or create a new one. ;)

Yeah, retroarch is my favorite emulator for all the retro systems (Sega cd, 32x, SNES, etc). Just when it comes to dreamcast, PS2, etc and above, I use their own emulator.

And when you get to add retrohumanoid media, you will see how beautiful hyperspin can get to be
