Coleman Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 So now I find myself going through each system as I setup and "auditing" the functionality of my build. I launch each game manually from Rocket Launcher, and verify that it works past the initial boot screen. If it does not, I will verify other cores/emulators to verify if it is a bad dump, or a compatibility issue. I can go through about 100 games/hour, but still this is nota fast process. My goal is to make sure that a given system is 100% playable before moving on to a different system. Is there a bether way to accomplish this, or am I stuck with the tedits manual process of testing each game manually? FWIW, I am finding about a 5% failure rate in terms of games that don't work, and about a 5% failure rate where games do not work with a default emulator. Any thoughts or suggestions?
thatman84 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Sorry to say I think your method is really the only way to properly test this on your system i doubt to many people do it though, fully at least anyway ? ninja2bceen Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Ya please share results lol. It would be nice to disable the game in the xml database until compatibility has been fixed. There is functionality to label it in the xml but no one has done itSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Advance the cause to 100%. http://hyperbase.hyperspin-fe.com/ Planet Geekdom, Subscribe for Tutorials! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdcby-s2GwriaOHGmVC2vGA?sub_confirmation=1&app=desktop
Coleman Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 I guess i can post my findings as I complete them. Maybe that will help someone in the future... What about the CRC checksum process. Is there a method for auditing that you have known good roms?
ninja2bceen Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Get hypermint over at rocket launchers site and in it you can easily press disable button on each game that doesn’t work and you will have it excluded from the hyperspin wheel but can always re enable it. SupraKarma Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Personally, this seems like a huge waste of time - emulators and cores are always getting updates, and when they do, are you really going to go through the process all over again? It's easier just to explain to anyone using your setup 'a small percentage of these games don't work, just exit out of the emulator, and try another one.' I would recommend doing it for a select few systems (where the correct ROM matters, or the emulation is spotty), and call it a day. Atari Lynx, Atari 5200, Sega Naomi, Panasonic 3DO, Atari Jaguar... and that's about it, really. If you want to do something with Nintendo 3DS, the emulation is not the greatest, and I'd recommend only adding your absolute favorites, after testing them. Likewise, Wii U has a ways to go. But most of these emulators have very good compatibility rate. The BSNES core for RetroArch supposedly has 100% compatibility. On a side note, there's a new 'Mesen' core that was just released for RetroArch - it's an NES core. Very high compatibility, probably the best yet (even surpassing NEStopia). There's a few issues with it they're working to fix, but keep your eyes on that one.

Coleman Posted January 21, 2018 Author Posted January 21, 2018 So i just finished the NES library... I only tested the games that are in the HyperList database. Of the 886 games, i was not able to test three. Hoppin Mad Exerion II La Guerra del Golfo I am not able to find a rom for Hoppin Mad. I do have a rom for Exerion II, but i believe it is actually Exerion I which is not on the list. My La Guerra del Golfo is a .ips extension which i dont know what to do with... The following 15 games i am not able to launch in RetroArch with any core: ***Adan y Eva ***Bases Loaded ***Big Nose Freaks Out ***Blackjack ***Blockout ***Boulder Dash ***Box Boy ***Boy and his Blob, a Trouble in Blobolonia ***Caveman Games ***International Cricket ***King Neptunes Adventures *** La Guerraaa del Golfo ***Othello (Austrillia) ***Racemate Challenge II ***U Force Power I don't know if i have a bad rom or if the rom just will not launch. U-Force does launch, but it is unplayable. The following 13 roms would not launch with the default core, but would launch with the FCEUMM core: Battle Kid 2 Bee 52 Caveman Games Death Race Emperor, L' Free Fall Kick Off La Alfombre Magica The Lion King Nintendo World Championships 1990 Parasol Stars - Rainbow Islands II Policeman Yoshi All other games launch fine with the NESTopia core set as default.
guyverjay Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 .ips extension is a patch file, not the rom itself
