bigdic Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Decided to remove some games from the mame XML file I don't want. I did one as a test and all was good, so I proceeded to delete some more. I did all of "A" and decided to check it had still worked but now I get an XML error and when I open the file through explorer it comes up In one continuous sentence. I edited it in notepad and have a feeling this could be the issue. Any idea what I have done wrong and how to go about fixing it?
thatman84 Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 It’s best to grab yourself notepad++ text editor. also I have found that using Dons tools from the download section 3rd party apps works well for telling you where the errors are. Use the rom renamer tool against anyfolder and when loading it will tell youthe error. Then rinse and repeat Official Hyperspin Tutorials Playlist HS Android Overview & Install HS Android Base Pack Download My Tutorials
Rowr14 Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 What exactly are you trying to restore? If you took out all of A just as a test I assume you made a backup that still works? Or are you trying to workout why taking out all of A caused an issue? If I had to guess perhaps you accidentally deleted some of the opening lines of the file? As said above you should definitely look at using dons hyperspin tools for this sort of thing rather than editing the xml directly. My other guess is that you may have saved the file with the wrong extension or as a text file.
Spawk Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 I agree with ThatMan84, Notepad++ is much better. Also there is no need to delete entries, simply change the "enabled" tag to "No" instead.
bigdic Posted June 24, 2018 Author Posted June 24, 2018 Hey guys thanks for all the replies, I have been using hypertools to do the work since, but its very slow work this way. I did make a backup and have since downloaded notepad++. I did compare the original and the edited one for important code I may of deleted but couldn't find any out of place. I did the same to my steam xml a few weeks ago so was just curious as to how I managed to f%%k them up and if anyone had done the same. I am going to write it off as using notepad instead notepad++ for now and will update this thread if I ever work it out for sure. Ps thanks for the screenshot @Spawk that good tip.
Spawk Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Yeah I have "parents only" filter set in HQ and use this to get the version I want to display. So for instance:Puckman:Enabled to NoPacman:Remove Puckman from the "clone of" tag.:-)Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk

bigdic Posted June 24, 2018 Author Posted June 24, 2018 I have since deleted it, but when trying to replicate the error with no joy at first until I deliberately deleted a < or > caption just out of interest. any of these out of place will ruin the whole code, so seems @rower14 was right and I had probably deleted some of the script I shouldn't have.
