craiganderson
hello im going through all the atari 5200 games and making sure they are working under MESS (my main emulator for 5200) if not working under MESS,....i switch that game to KAT however i have noticed so far there are no games that work on mess that dont work on kat (very unofficial statement cuz im not going that direction) but there are more than a few games that dont work on mess that do work on kat and kat looks crisper is that everybody elses experience as well>?? thanks
bandit721
Yes, that's what I have found as well. I started doing the same as you - using MESS as the default standard as I would assume it is more accurate. After a while, I found that MESS has many small issues with either video or audio which made me switch my default emu for the 5200 over to KAT. I do like the NTSC/HLSL video filtering capabilities in MESS but it just wasn't worth dealing with all the other little glitches. 5200 emulation is really close in MESS, but as you said - there are more than a few issues and it seems the dev team has moved on so I'm not holding out hope that they will be fixed any time soon if ever. Silverback
I use KAT as i found it easier to set up. I have not had an issue with any games as of yet.
MonkeyJug
What video settings are you guys using for Kat? I'm struggling to get mine full screen. It takes up about a fifth of my 1080p display, small square in the middle of the screen... Care to share your settings for the most authentic looking retro CRT look? OneBadVeggie
Kat has terrible options as far as trying to get it to a resolution you want, but as others have said, 5200 is no good on MESS. It's a bit frustrating.
craiganderson
better to be lucky than good i guess as far as kat and video settings i am using whatever the default settings are (i have never touched them as far as i can remember) and it is fullscreen on my 32 tv havent tried the 55 inch that is also hooked up to this tower
craiganderson
whats everybody doing for 7800?
OneBadVeggie
I'm using MESS for 7800. I think ProSystem is the "official" Hyperspin emulator for 7800, but I find it to be a pain in the neck and never have any problems with 7800 and MESS.
brolly
There's no such thing as official HyperSpin emulator. Current MESS is better than ProSystem which has a lot of issues with fullscreen and color palettes on anything newer than XP.
craiganderson
Current MESS is better than ProSystem which has a lot of issues with fullscreen and color palettes on anything newer than XP. Are there any individual games that you are sending to ProSystem instead of MESS? I was planning on checking them myself but if somebody has already done it ........ thanks craiganderson
craiganderson
made a real quick 7800 theme this will do for now much more "fun" looking to me never liked the official one too mean looking and it always looked like the guy in left lower corner was j**rk*ng off or something (but very well done and better than anything i could ever do) just fyi

brolly
This is the game I'm talking about: http://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=
bandit721
As Brolly mentioned, the latest release of MESS (0.153) included a ton of 7800 fixes and it's now considered the best by many over at AtariAge: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/224055-mess-0153the-next-generation-of-atari-7800-emulation/ Now if they would only do the same for the 5200
Trnzaddict
I would love to switch to Mess for 7800, it's one of my only systems not compatible with HP because of Prosystem. Did they fix the music problem in Commando? That's one of my favorite games I played on the 7800. When I booted up Mess back in late January and saw how the music was broke in Commando I dumped it. Also did they add in light gun emulation?
bandit721
Trnzaddict - Yep, Commando fixed with latest build. I think I read in the thread over at AtariAge that they were working on lightgun emu now, so perhaps in the near future...check out the link in my post above for more details on the new version and the couple of things left to fix (i.e. lightgun support)... brolly
Ah right I totally forgot about the lightgun games... you still need Emu7800 for those.
