Virtual scrolling desktop

As mentioned in Ron's thread about TeamViewer I feel there ought to be a way to use HLHQ on a low res arcade monitor by scrolling around a virtual desktop with a high enough resolution to display the whole program. I don't actually have an arcade monitor, but I remembered using a virtual desktop on the Atari ST many years ago and thought I'd try to help out. However, I have so far failed to find anything that works as required. Most tools (e.g. SDesk, GiMiSpace, WindowSlider, 360desktop) seem to limit the size of any window to the actual monitor resolution, but allow you to have lots of windows spread out on a large desktop that extends beyond the edge of the screen.

I had a glimmer of hope when using Infinite Screen, as this allowed me to define the size of the HLHQ window to 1920x1080 while my monitor was set to 800x600. However, the program only occupied the top left corner of the window and the rest was black. I don't know if this is a limitation of Infinite Screen or Windows 7, or something to do with the way HLHQ is written (maybe Brolly can confirm?) but for now I seem to have hit a dead end.

If anyone else has any bright ideas, please chime in!

I can't really tell much as I don't know how those tools work, only thing I can tell you is that I don't have any restrictions on HLHQ. It's a simple window that can be resized to whatever size you want and the components will fill the window space, so it probably has something to do on how they are virtualizing the screen area.

Thanks for pushing this, Agrajag. Since RDP mysteriously stopped working on my cab recently, I've been really struggling to make cab updates. I'll play around with Infinite Screen and see if I can get some additional test data for us to look at.
