PopCap Install

Moved this Thread here if this helps anybody out.

So far all the threads I have read have been really helpful and I have gotten most of my setups done with ease! When it came to Popcap games most of the threads were hard to follow and only answered a specific question. There were no videos on the web or a start to finish guide. After failing a few times I was able to get it running really..i mean really easy with no editing of scripts or compiling. I am sure you can if you want to add special functions but this is a guide for an easy install of popcap.

1. Create a popcap folder in emulators folder C:Hyperspin\Emulators\PopCap

Within this folder I pasted all my game folders i.e. C:Hyperspin\Emulators\PopCap\Bejewled\

2. Create a folder in the Popcap folder named Roms C:Hyperspin\Emulators\PopCap\Roms

Within this folder paste shortcuts for all the games .exe files i.e. C:Hyperspin\Emulators\PopCap\Roms\bejewled.lnk

remember to rename the shortcut so it just has the game name (note: by default all shortcuts are .lnk there is no need to do anything for that)

3. Create a folder in your database folder called PopCap

4. Launch Hypersync and select popcap and download database and all artwork etc....

(you may need to to create a folder for popcap in the media folder for it to work)

5. At this point you should have popcap setup in the emulators folder, a folder in media for popcap with artwork, media\main menu\images\wheel should have a popcap wheel .png

6. I also recommend searching hyperspin downloads and getting themes etc at this point

7. Next launch HyperHQ

Click on Main Menu Wizard

Add new menu item (name it PopCap)

With sub menu

8. In HyperHQ go to wheel setting and choose PopCap that you just created

Execution = Normal

PC Game = Enabled

Executable = leave blank

Rom Path = C:Hyperspin\Emulators\PopCap\Roms\

Params = leave blank

Extentions = lnk

Use Full Path to Roms = enabled

Search Subfolders = enabled

Exit out of hyperhq

Launch Hyperspin and you should be good to go

If I left anything out please let me know so I can update it was a lot to remember.

After renaming all my .exe and .lnk files to match the database it runs like a dream....Im also using a mouse so you will have to do some more searching if you are using a trackball or something. In the future I would like to see if I can get a touch screen to work with it. Ill post if I do. If you have one please post if it works and how you set it up.

Thanks for posting this.. I am building my first HP system and its specifically going to run Popcap games with a touchscreen pc. The games play perfect with the touchscreen, I'm just trying to get HP to load everything.. Hopefully I'll get it completed in the next few days. For right now, the touchscreen will work the game play, but I think I'm going to need the keyboard still for navigation in HP. Down the road it will probably get an IPAC controller..

I'm running into an issue getting this to work.. I followed the steps here to get it set up in Hyperspin, but when I click on the game, it doesn't launch. I also have Hyperlaunch set up in Hyperspin.. I'm brand new to the whole system. Do I need to set up something in Hyperlaunch as well?

So in theory, this only works outside of HyperLauncherHQ or RocketLauncherUI meaning you will not get the benefits of using things like Fades, or bezels to work.

Read the module notes for "Casual Games".

Note: This does not apply to the above instructions using HyperHQ and HyperLaunch. This is only in response to Lords100's question. It is doable, but after you deal with FadeTitle and Window Grabber, you will likely just want to return to the above tutorial.

Lords100, let me know when you read this as my post will likely self destruct to prevent this thread from being sidetracked.

Thanks Westfranks! There are many ways of doing it. Using PC Launcher I heard, the Above method, People come up with different methods, but I did it just using Causal Games! I ran it as a virtual emulator. You don't even need an emulator. Takes a bit of steps but it's worth it to me . I can use the fades and Bezels within RocketLauncherUI or HyperLauncherHQ with no trouble.

cheers.

FYI, this guide may not work if you have change to RocketLauncher 1.0 and still use HyperSpin 1.3, you will no longer be able to add the Rom Path and extension.

HyperSpin 1.4 will be fine and also using the Casual games Module for RL.

Thanks.  I was having enormous difficulty figuring out how to launch PC games in HyperSpin/RocketLauncher and this guide helped.

Wow  I got it working in like 10 mins thanks so much.. Only thing I need help with is how to set up a xbox 360 pad to be used as a mouse with a separate xpadder profile for PopCap??? anyone walk me through that?

Posted

haven't setup popcap in a while but what I remember was the method was very similar to setting up pc games and tatio type.. basically all the systems that the shortcut.lnk files are the roms that are launched in RL.

Can anybody please tell me where I can find the Casual Games emulator? I've been searching for a while now and can't seem to find a link. If someone can reply with a website link or a download link I would very much appreciate it. Thank you.

As far as I'm aware there is no emulator because the popcap games are all started via the exe file. You need to use the casual games module in RocketLaucher and the module notes should help you with set up.
