wesphillips Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I have discovered that after updating to windows version 20H2, Hyperspin, HyperHQ, and HyperTheme no longer function. When you run them, they show up in task manager as Background processes, and consume on average 7% CPU, but never display. The only entry in the event viewer is: Log Name: Application Source: Windows Error Reporting Date: 12/21/2020 3:58:01 PM Event ID: 1001 Task Category: None Level: Information Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: MY-PC Description: Fault bucket , type 0 Event Name: APPCRASH Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: HyperSpin.exe P2: 1.5.1.0 P3: 5aec9b23 P4: ntdll.dll P5: 10.0.19041.662 P6: 5f641e44 P7: c0000005 P8: 000468ee P9: P10: Attached files: \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8514.tmp.mdmp \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8600.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8610.tmp.xml \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8610.tmp.csv \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8631.tmp.txt \\?\C:\Users\Weslet\AppData\Local\Temp\WER8641.tmp.appcompat.txt These files may be available here: \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\AppCrash_HyperSpin.exe_9d2b7f388b491f34019e8f9105c7c15a36eee3_1556631f_cab_beeda405-8393-48a4-91cf-1d63341452c2 Analysis symbol: Rechecking for solution: 0 Report Id: 6239a53d-d602-4a69-86bf-80fd1b8468e9 Report Status: 100 Hashed bucket: Cab Guid: 0 Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Windows Error Reporting" /> <EventID Qualifiers="0">1001</EventID> <Version>0</Version> <Level>4</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Opcode>0</Opcode> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2020-12-21T21:58:01.4332769Z" /> <EventRecordID>12889</EventRecordID> <Correlation /> <Execution ProcessID="0" ThreadID="0" /> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>MY-PC</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data> </Data> <Data>0</Data> <Data>APPCRASH</Data> <Data>Not available</Data> <Data>0</Data> <Data>HyperSpin.exe</Data> <Data>1.5.1.0</Data> <Data>5aec9b23</Data> <Data>ntdll.dll</Data> <Data>10.0.19041.662</Data> <Data>5f641e44</Data> <Data>c0000005</Data> <Data>000468ee</Data> <Data> </Data> <Data> </Data> <Data> \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8514.tmp.mdmp \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8600.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8610.tmp.xml \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8610.tmp.csv \\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Temp\WER8631.tmp.txt \\?\C:\Users\Weslet\AppData\Local\Temp\WER8641.tmp.appcompat.txt</Data> <Data>\\?\C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\AppCrash_HyperSpin.exe_9d2b7f388b491f34019e8f9105c7c15a36eee3_1556631f_cab_beeda405-8393-48a4-91cf-1d63341452c2</Data> <Data> </Data> <Data>0</Data> <Data>6239a53d-d602-4a69-86bf-80fd1b8468e9</Data> <Data>100</Data> <Data> </Data> <Data>0</Data> </EventData> </Event> But I am not sure if this message is caused by me Ending the task or not(I don't think so, because I ended the processes of HyperHQ, and HyperTheme but got no messages for them). I have also tried this on two different computers, as well as Compatibility mode for windows XP, 7, and 8 as well as with administrator privileges. I attached the folder referenced in the error message above. I hope that this helps. lumberg Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Download this file and put it in your Root hyperspin folder where your hyperspin.exe is located worked for me
wesphillips Posted January 2, 2021 Author Posted January 2, 2021 I tried that and there was no change. Are you sure that you did that for windows 10 version 20H2?

This version of Windows 10 also works fine with this sxs.dll file Just put it in the same folder as Hyperspin.exe
NITRO1250 Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 Wait, it would help if the HyperSpin.exe wasn't as a background process still when trying the dll addition. Now it works as intended
aceman2112 Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Everytime I put That File in That Folder,Still Nothing Happens!!!! What Am I Doing Wrong???
Guest Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Everytime I put That File in That Folder,Still Nothing Happens!!!! What Am I Doing Wrong??? Trying to use HyperSpin in 2021, when it’s development has ceased. There are way better working and actively developed front ends out there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Anyone who thinks Hyperspin is no good in 2021, do one !! If there are better frontends (in your opinion) like the snail paced Launchbox for example, then go and use it and stop trying to put other people off using Hyperspin !! Even with Zero development, Hyperspin is better than any frontend, and I have Launchbox setup with 150,000 games on it (which is trash, because it is a slow as F***) Hyperspin is smooth as silk when linked to RocketLauncher in comparison.
Guest Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Your post would have more weight if it wasn’t in a thread detailing how HS is broken in the latest Windows update and hasn’t been fixed.Launchbox isn’t the only other front end out there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Launchbox isn’t the only other front end out there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Everything breaks if it's on a PC. It's not Hyperspin that broke, it was the Windows update that stopped Hyperspin working and they were looking for a fix until someone found it. It works, so there is no longer an issue. This has only happened 2 times in about 5 years, so it's not a major issue. Too many people come on here to slag off Hyperspin, when there is no need. If you don't like it then leave. To this day I have tried them all, and I literally have every system, every game you can think of, and Hyperspin/RocketLauncher is still the best IMO !! Launchbox for example is just style over substance, it's literally unusable.
Guest Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 It’s firmly HS that is the issue here. It’s normal for apps to have to keep up with OS updates. Shame that HS doesn’t see that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

When it broke, they looked to fix it, until a solution arrived. Let's agree to disagree.

The “fixes” they find are simply workarounds because no one is actively working on the code, and haven’t for sometime. Yet they continue to extract money from people for something that is fundamentally broken.I’m all for “agreeing to disagree” but this isn’t politics at this point. It’s just simple facts. I am just a use who paid my money like everyone else, but facts are facts, it's the best frontend regardless of nobody touching it for years. If you want lights and special effects use Launchbox, if you want to play a game sometime this week (as it tries to load up) then stick with Hyperspin.

It is literally reporting on critical show stopping bug with HS.It simply is not the best front end. Especially given that it is implemented using flash, which is now discontinued. There are way better options out there, and there is world past launchbox. It’s criminal at this point that the HS admins keep pulling in money from people for something that is outdated, broken and fundamentally flawed, whilst doing absolutely no active development. There is nothing to do with the file, it goes in the HS folder... then reboot your PC to make sure the old sxs.dll in the windows folder isn't already loaded. Don't pay any attention to any dummies who declare HS dead. I have moved on from many programs in my life and I never thought once of returning to their site for such a statement. It's ignorant at best. If a site is useful to me I use it, and if it's not I move on. Move on tonesmalone.

If HS isn’t dead where is the active development? Where is the investment of money taken from users? Where are the actual services they pay for? It’s literally nowhere. And that’s criminal. I think what I think. If you don’t want me round, just delete my account. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

gigapig Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Hyperspin is free software and I'm using it right now to play some C64 games. In the first UK Covid-19 lockdown I saw a report of people in Equadore burying their family members and I vowed never to moan about anything again, which is hard being British. So arguing over which frontend is best, working or broken is pretty lame. So if all you want to do is come here and moan then please don't and just stay away. Alternatively get involved and have a good time.

It’s about peddling something, taking money and not actively developing it. Trouble is, no one sees that until they’ve given their money over. Also, I won’t mind getting involved. Give me access to the source code and I’ll sort it. I suspect though, that no one actually has it any more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
