monkeychunkuk
So I picked up these joysticks in a swap I want to mount them in one of my bartops The problem is I use 18mm mdf and as you can see by the picture the come up a little short I know some of guys mount them from the top but because of the artwork I don't want to go that route. So what are my options? Many thanks in advance Sent from the smut hut
joe35car
Well who is the manufacturer? Go to the web site and see if they sell longer shafts. Most do for the fact of metal and wood mounting.

mikekim
simple - use a router to make a hole (on the underside) that the joystick base sits in. if you are using 18mm you can route an 8 - 10mm hole

mikekim
Nice thinking buddy but how do I fix them and am I still going to end up with stump sticks ? Sent from the smut hut i personally would screw them into the wood, with small woodscrews. your shafts would be 1cm longer that they currently are when mounted onto the 18mm cp, i don't know if this would be long enough for you. if you can't get longer shafts, then you would need to look at mounting the joysticks onto thin metal plates and flush routing the metal plate into the cp.. (probably less grief to pickup new sticks)
monkeychunkuk
Yer these are loads of problems one of the joysticks is missing the the click in wires so I may take the ball parts off and switch them with a new set and break out the soldering iron and use them for my own machine MANY thanks for the ideas Sent from the smut hut
maxxsinner
I had the same drama with my joysticks Monkeychunkuk and ended up rebating the back of the control panel to suit - Then I swapped the bracket over with ones from ebay the had an offset on them - I had to redrill the holes to line up but you can see the 6-8mm off set on this pic better - Which made it so I could use decent length screws into the panel to hold the joystick in place and still screw them in from the back. Hope that helps.
