Kenny88 Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Hi folks: A bit new to Hyperspin, and so far so good - great support and user community compared to other front ends for sure. So I have a lot of MAME games working, but I can't seem to get Pacman to show up in the MAME wheel. I can't seem to find anything here that will help me, so I figured posting for help is my last option. This is what I've done. 1. I have the pacman.zip ROM, tested it in my MAME emulator and it works fine. 2. Downloaded and put pacman.zip theme from Hyperspin Downloads into the Media\MAME folder. 3. Edited the MAME.XML file from the DATABASE directory to reflect pacman.zip as shown below: <game name="pacman" index="" image=""> <description>pacman</description> <cloneof></cloneof> <crc></crc> <manufacturer>[Namco] (Midway license)</manufacturer> <year>1980</year> <genre>Maze</genre> </game> 4. Launched HyperSpin, went to MAME selection in wheel, and can't see pacman listed. Any idea folks what I'm doing incorrectly? I"m totally going nuts over this as i've spent so much time trying :( Thanks for the help
phulshof Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 First reason that comes to mind is that pacman IS a clone, of puckman.
MacklinB Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 ^ This. Also in HyperHQ check that you have "Parents Only" unchecked in Wheel Settings>MAME>Wheel Filters, otherwise the wheel will obviously only display puckman. Atari 2600: Wheels (FTP) + Wheels (Cart Labels) (FTP) | Emerson Arcadia 2001: Wheels (FTP) | Future Pinball: Wheels + Flyers + XML (FTP) | PlayStation 1: ePSXe Guide | Sharp MZ-2500: XML | Sinclair ZX Spectrum: XML | Touhou Project: Themes | FTP
Kenny88 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Hi all: I give up! This is really driving me crazy, and i really need further help. As per the suggestions, I have done the following: 1. Ensure that "Parents Only" option not checked off. 2. In the MAME.XML, there is no typo or spelling issue of the pacman or puckman Also went to the ROMS folder to make sure they match. 3. As below, the 2 XML entries are in my MAME.XML, which reflect both pacman and puckman. 4. If I uncheck "Wheels Only" the pacman shows up in the wheel, but it lists a bunch of clones. So this leads me to believe that there is a problem with the artwork?? <game name="pacman" index="" image=""> <description>Pac-Man</description> <cloneof>puckman</cloneof> <crc>c1e6ab10</crc> <manufacturer>[Namco] (Midway license)</manufacturer> <year>1980</year> <genre>Maze</genre> </game> <game name="puckman" index="" image=""> <description>PuckMan</description> <cloneof></cloneof> <crc>fee263b3</crc> <manufacturer>Namco</manufacturer> <year>1980</year> <genre>Maze</genre> </game>
Kenny88 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 I think I got it.....I somehow am missing the wheel graphic for pacman. Now I am trying to figure out why Puckman doesn't launch as it is giving me error messages that the ROM is missing. Oddly enough puckman launches in Mame emulator so the ROM I know is good.

Not sure if it makes a difference but do you have the Split set or the Merged set?
snstay Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I noticed your xml says pacman in the description and not pacman (Midway). And from what i understand everything has to be named the same.
Krakerman Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 All you have to do is remove the romname that is between <cloneof>puckman</cloneof> So just remove puckman and it should look like this <cloneof></cloneof> then it will show up under MAME if you have parents checked.

I like this solution. I edited my mame.xml and made this change, but it still didn't appear. Am I missing something? It shows if I enable clones, but I'd rather just have pac-man appear as a parent. -D
Anpanman Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I had this issue yesterday doing the same for pacman and wonderboy English translation bootleg. This seems to be an issue with hyperlaunch when you tick the option to parent roms only and are using merged rom sets. My guess is that hyperlaunch does not take into account merged rom sets. It seems to look for the physical compressed game before it passes these parameters to mame. i simply copied and pasted the merged set to my mame rom collection and renamed them to the clone name. They still work perfectly.
