The problem I have is with how real stuff gets now, and how much more based in reality it is.  To me that's the major difference between new school and old school in terms of the whole idea of senseless violence becoming desensitized.  We've all been killing things since we were wee lads.  But they where cartoonish and like in a non-realistic fantasy realm.  Pac-man eating ghosts, mario jumping on goombas, etc., etc.  So it didn't seem so fucked up and so in your face with the human element, which can sometimes cross over into distasteful.  I wouldn't play this as an adult, because it's just too senseless.  If there was a plot of vengeance, and a noble idea behind say avenging the death of someone, then i could get behind it.

And your last sentence is the key. The game is senseless. Younger people like senseless. Now that we've grown up we want our killing to mean something

It is getting more realistic - I give you that. But I think that is technology doing it's thing - good parents or role models adjust as well.

No, I said the voilence is senseless.  Being senseless in general isn't the problem.  Toe Jam & Earl is senseless.  But while that game is senseless in a general way, it doesn't evoke the evilness of random gore-based human killings.  No purpose for it, that's the kicker for me.

The game got abysmal reviews....not even because of the violence, but because they said it's a shitty boring twin stick shooter. They DID  say it has good visuals though, but whatever.

 

I'm enjoying Axiom Verge anyway.
