Overview: Simple Scummer automates the installation of ScummVM games into an existing ScummVM installation. Simple Scummer uses the HyperSpin database for ScummVM to build a game set (using files obtained through several websites.)

Please Note: Simple Scummer requires proper files that can be found through a variety of methods, we will not discuss where to get these files, nor will we distribute them.

Try moving the Scummer to your C:\ drive and running it. Don't worry no data will be written to your C:\ drive, it just uses that drive for creating the null text files.

I made the HList db so it matches what scummvm automatically names its games in its own ini. It takes probably 5 mins to go from a fresh scummvm install to a complete one if you grabbed the games from the scummvm torrent on PD.

I'm not sure what this app does that scummvm doesn't when you do a mass import? From the scummvm menu, hold Shift, and the "Add Game" button changes to "Mass Add" (what I call mass import).

Where setting up scummvm becomes a pain is if you want to change settings per game, like audio driver used which can give you real synthesized audio vs soundblaster. Not all games support this, so you have to do it per game to see if it works. Sometimes there is multiple supported synthesizer cards, so you have to experiment to see what sounds best for you.

nope didnt realize that. i thought i had to unzip and install, and rename them all to suit. then open up scummvm and load each in and double check naming.

ok i didnt have the ini in the right place. moved it to the right place and they all show up in scummvm.

however all the game paths are incorrect in scummvm and i have to manually select the right folder.

Can you give an example how they are wrong? If you have scummvm import them, why would they point to a wrong dir? Or are you saying you used rain's app to import, then moved that ini to the correct folder and they were wrong in scummvm?

I would start with a clean ini, or just del it. Open scummvm and shift Add game and point to where all your games are. Scummvm will recreate a default ini and import all your games correctly. Then all you have to do to play them is download the HList db and my blank txt files from the ftp. Point your rompath to the folder with the txt files and exe and path to scummvm exe.

Just keep in mind, that db is based from scummvm 2-3 versions ago. So it will miss a handful of games that were added since then.

This application was primarily designed for a few members of the forum; if your paths do not match in your ini after using this tool; then you have moved your folders - because this program uses the absolute path you designate during the initial setup. Simple Scummer was made for users having trouble with "other" scripts on HyperSpin.

@DJ, this application does not really do much more than the mass import feature; but I developed it as a training exercise. Tedious though it may be to program something that has already been program; with each new application that I create it helps refine my skills as a software developer. So long story is no - it does not do much more than mass import; but was a great learning tool to develop. Also, it uses an online database which I am testing out for HyperSync 3; so therefore it helps us there as well. Not sure if ScummVM has the capability of mass moving a working installation; but this program will also allow you to do that as well.

Nope, scummvm cannot move installations around, so that's one good thing you have there. One thing though, does it grab all the rest of the settings from the scummvm.ini? Or does it only update the path information to point to the new location, leaving the rest of the settings alone?

ok i worked out what was causing the issue. first i removed all the games from scummvm and did the mass add as pointed out by djvj.

then i had to set this variable to false with in the scummvm.ahk module

UseCustomConfig = false	; Keep this true if you want to use a custom ini. Place the ini in the folder with this module.

games launched from hyperspin correctly

i even tried copying out the scummvm.ini file and putting in the module and setting it to true. but when i do that and try and launch a scummvm game from hyperspin it says "path not found"

not sure exactly why but i would prefer to keep the ini file with the module incase i copy my hyperspin to a new hard drive etc.

any ideas?

Don't worry about UseCustomConfig, so keep that false for now. That's something you can use after you are all working and setup. Make sure the game name you are launching from your xml, has the same name in the scummvm's ini too.

I think the reason some weren't loading was because I didn't have the exact version that was in the XML. I selectively choose what download etc. eg I had dos version and XML was looking for a fm-towns version etc

so I'm getting the ones needed.

who looks after the XML databases for scumm? there's some new ones in the latest version that are in the XML that would be nice to have added.

I made that entire db and it was a lot of work. Since I have been working on HL2 and modules entirely now, I've had little time to do db work and update it. If someone else wants to step up, or at least give me a list of what playable games were added, I can do the testing work and get it updated.

I have a db for 1.4 done (the one on HL is for 1.2), but meanwhile 1.5 got released and I didn't update yet even though I already have the list of changes, just didn't get around to add them to the xml.
