Hey guys, they say when you're in love, you want to tell the world. Well, say hello to Gain Ground:

Searched high and low for this game for 5 years, no joke, it was right around the time I joined HS. Finally found it!

Only 200 made and who knows how many still exist. This is a true grail folks, unique game through and through. It uses a medium resolution monitor mounted vertically, it's System 24, which means it the rom is on a 3.5" floppy disc and there is a special security chip unique to this board set. Everything about this game is unique and I haven't even mentioned the gameplay!

If you aren't familiar with the game, fire up MAME and give it a go. I suggest also playing the Sega Genesis port of this. It's a very good port and is better than the Master System and PC Engine CD ports imo. Still haven't played the Japanese PS2 remake.

It's a good mix of strategy and action. You can rescue more characters on each screen by picking them up and exiting the level with them. You can then use them on the subsequent levels. If you die, you can pick up your character again to save them, but only one character at a time will be available to save (from the ones you've lost). To clear a screen you can either kill all the enemies (yes) or exit with every character (like a wuss). Each character is slightly different and you definitely need to hang onto certain ones if you plan on beating the game. Every 10th level is a boss stage. There really is no other game quite like it out there.

Read more about it on Hardcore Gaming 101, or hell, just play the damn thing! It's a real hidden gem in the arcade world.

I'm so incredible stoked to have this game!  :dance2:

Congrats... really nice when you finally get that magical thing you were searching for.

Yes!

Haz. I'll put more pics up soon. I need to figure out how to get the damn thing in my house first haha

One of my best friends from childhood and I played this on Genesis and we're obsessed with the game. We don't get to hang out as much as we used to, but I'm having him over next weekend and I'm going to surprise him with this! We also have another mutual best friend whom we both grew up with, is into video games, etc. So finally all three of us can Gain some Ground. This is the real reason why I wanted it so badly.

Also, it's cool having a game that not a lot of people know about. Makes it feel more personal.
