Free ‘Street Fighter X Mega Man’ game hits Dec. 17

A “Street Fighter”/”Mega Man” mashup you can play and own for free? Bring that sonic boom, baby!

Capcom celebrates 25 years of “Hadoken!” and Mega Busters with “Street Fighter X Mega Man,” a fan-made crossover of the two mighty video game franchises. The free download for PC is available Dec. 17 at the Capcom Community site. Check out the screenshots above and see it in side-scrolling, 8-bit retro action below.

SFxMM pits the Blue Bomber himself against tiny but mighty versions of Ryu, Chun-Li and other “Street Fighter” greats that stand in as Robot Masters. It’s classic “Mega Man” action with a “Street Fighter” twist — thump the SF-themed brawlers and snag their powers to take on the next boss. And naturally have a blast doing so.

As the Capcom Unity blog notes, this really is a collaboration between game maker and fans. Singapore native Seow Zong Hui (aka “Sonic”) created and developed SFxMM with Capcom, while Luke “A_Rival” Esquivel crafted the game’s original soundtrack. Like the gameplay, the music also mashes-up classic “Street Fighter” and “Mega Man” themes into digitized delight for the senses.

Capcom highlights SFxMM as a bridge of sorts to close out the ceremonies of the 25th Anniversary of “Street Fighter” and ring in what’s to come in 2013 to celebrate Mega Man’s own silver anniversary. “Street Fighter” debuted in coin-op arcades in 1987, while “Mega Man” premiered on the Nintendo Entertainment System game console the same year.

I’ll admit, I’m more familiar with “Street Fighter” than “Mega Man,” but only just. The late ’80s were my home console dead zone, so no Mega Man on my TV. As for coin-op fighters, I just dropped quarters into games with far less buttons, like “Bad Dudes” and “Pit-Fighter.” The one time I played “Street Fighter II” my feeble little mind couldn’t comprehend three separate punch buttons. Yeah, pretty sad.

“Street Fighter X Mega Man,” on the other hand, should make me and a ton of other casual and hardcore gamers very, very happy.

Is that theme available on the FTP somewhere? Is there any wheel art for it yet? Thanks!

I found a great pic for a wheel on Google, all I had to do was resize it to 400x175. Let me see if I can find it again.

Don't know why there are two threads about this but I did upload a theme for approval already and the wheel image is included in the zip.

I don't see the wheel image in the zip. I see an image that is *way* too big to be a wheel image though.
