what can be really helpful is, knowing

1. what OS and 32 or 64bit version you are using?

2. what version of EDS and Hypermarquee being used in combination?

3. some screenshots, log, a pastebin of your setting of EDS first then HyperMarquee second?

4. if you want to do a session please PM me on forum your method so that I can help you individually.

Ok here goes...(yes I have read the docs for both Hypermarquee and EDS)

I have a working setup through Mala on a 64-bit Win 7 OS. I do not run Hyperspin and I have the latest drops of both hypermarquee and EDS. I click on the Mala icon and it runs and starts LED Blinky as a plugin. Everything is working fine with my setup. My goal is to run Mala and have HyperMarquee display the current game that I select and a default marquee when none is available through the game artwork. I run a second monitor above my main game screen which is where I want to display the marquee artwork. Everything for my Mame environment is on E: My official path is E:\Emulators\Mame. So here are my questions...

1. Do I have to get Hypermarquee working first before I move over to EDS?

2. Or is this all done through EDS and AHK?

3. I get confused on the commands I need to setup...."[game]" "[system]"

I guess I am looking for a little better walkthrough because I am confused between the two programs on which one is my starting point. If I can get it working I can create a cradle to grave walkthrough for others. Thanks.

we will be doing a setup for you that be functioning like this for your mala setup...

the structure map of program communication will be like this

mala > EDS > LedBlinky + hypermarquee

you will be using ledblinky in stand-alone mode... so you can place you ledblinky folder anywhere.

next, we will start with the Mala's plugin for Ledblinky: make sure you have your LEDBlinky.mplugin in the plugin folder.

next inside the plugin folder; you should have a folder label ledblinky.

this is where we will make changes here. I need you to copy all the content files inside the ledblinky folder and place it somewhere else for later usage.

for example of where to place the files, in "../plugins/ledblinky/ledblinky"

now you want to place your focus in the folder "/plugins/ledblinky"

next you will place the file for EDS in this folder.

rename the exe file called "eds_launchmodule (rename me!).exe" to "LedBlinky.exe"; without the quotes to be clear

you want to open up "hyperspineventintegrator.exe"

make sure its a fresh setup;

you will already see a sample entry for ledblinky already setup in EDS, you need to select the exe location of the real LedBlinky.exe.

for example it was discuss to place here "../plugins/ledblinky/ledblinky"

you can do so by clicking the application column of sample entry of ledblinky in EDS.

Ok..so I am with you up to this point and I think you meant to finish with "clicking the 3 dots next to LedBlinky in the hyperspineventintegrator program and choose the LedBlinky.exe we just renamed". Is that correct??

Got it...pointed to the original LedBlinky in the plugins/ledblinky/ledblinky folder...NOT the renamed one in the plugins/ledblinky folder. If that is correct I am ready to proceed.

if you have it setup right; i would test it, run mala. your buttons should light up as normal, speak or whatever you ledblinky for. if it work, I will example more once my hands not so full

Well it kind of works....if I press the TEST button with EDS running it works briefly but if I just run Mala it does not light up the buttons.

the way it should work is, mala will open eds then eds will run ledblinky, eds just does a pass-through all the event triggers directly to Ledblinky. unless Eds is not picking up those event triggers

well it look like mala's plugin made for ledblinky needs minor code modding to work with eds.

right now the focus is to get eds and hypermarquee out beta to release state.

mala plugin for eds will be another project later on

Ok, so from that comment I believe you are telling me that my goal of having Mala run with Led Blinky and displaying a marquee of the game being played is not currently possible. Correct? Do I need to post this to the LedBlinky/Mala plugin software author? Thanks.

its morely up to antos the author of EDS or I, to code a plugin for mala support... at the moment the Mala's ledblinky plugin doesnt work, its lacking minor vb/cpp code to work corrently, my focus.. are on the main project and tutorials booklet, this is a additon that will be worked on later down the line

Hi Steve (Chappie),

First, we are very proud that you are showing interest for EDS & HyperMarquee products. A lot of time and passion have been spent for the benefit of the emu community.

Sevenseal is perfectly right saying that we are focussing on having a stable release version for Hyperspin first. That doesn't mean that it will take very 'long' before considering MALA. Being compatible with MALA is certainly an asset for our products.

Now, I haven't tried Mala in conjunctions with EDS and I do not have LedBlinky mylself. But, before closing the file and be sure 100% that this is not working with it, which this could be a reality, I would like you to run EDS and HyperMarquee without MALA as a first configuration setup. This should work 100% for you, then you can test it with MALA and only then. (be our MALA tester!!)

Just a side note to say that we are just passionate people with a day job, a family and doing this for fun at our spare time for free. The notion of time, for us, has a different meaning with some elasticity considering that PACMAN has almost 35 years already! :)... Hint: I have grey hair... But I believe that Sevenseal is still ok. :)

Ok..I am willing to try to get EDS and Hypermarquee working...I am assuming (and ask for your quick assistance) that I setup EDS to point to hypermarquee and then the Mame.exe?? If not, can you step me through that setup?? I get confused with the commands and wildcards with regards to pulling up the currently playing games marquee.

hi antos, I confirmed the eds does not work with mala, the "mala plugin made for ledblinky" does not work with conjunction with EDS, mala ledblinky plugin is lacking cli triggers to register with eds.

two things can happen to make it work: make a new eds module for mala only or make a mala plugin that directly for eds to work on mala.

my opinion is its easier to make a mala plugin

there are provide code to make mala plugins with event trigger; they are in vb or cpp code.

Thanks sevenseal...lets just try to get EDS to display the marquee through Hypermarquee the currently selected game in Mame. But quick question...so EDS does not work with Mala or the LEDBlinky plugin version of Mala? So can I use Mala as my front-end without LED Blinky and still get EDS to work to display the Mame game I have selected?

we were trying to setup mala like that before.. just to inform you chappie. with or without ledblinky.. currently mala is unable to work with eds unless two things happen which I mention above to antos

Ok thanks, I had seen where you said the "mala plugin made for ledblinky does not work with conjunction with EDS" and just wanted to be sure that also meant it just does not work for Mala without LedBlinky. I will wait for some changes then. My system is designed around Mala as my front-end. One other comment, EDS is hard to work with on arcade monitors. I have a digital arcade monitor that runs Win7 desktop clear and crisp at 640-480 resolution but when you start EDS on it the window overlaps the EDS graphic circle over buttons, is missing buttons like the minimize and close "X" at the top right corner, is missing titles in the buttons like Close All. Just wanted to pass that along that for arcade monitors, at least for mine, I have a difficult time with the EDS window at that resolution on that monitor.

Hello all, have been running some tests using HyperMarquee+EDS yesterday. I was expecting to struggle a lot, never heard of CLI, pipes etc...

First i went to setup HyperMarquee and things went incredible "smooth": few hours later i had HyperMarquee pulling artwork, highscores and game info thru HyperLaunch. Really nice!

Then i started messing with EDS. And again, easier than i thought, i had it kinda working, showing marquee for the games i had selected on hyperspin, no launch needed. Really, really nice!!!

Now to the doubts and problems im having. First of all, im guessing the HSFileWatcher is meant as a substitute to the "PipeServerTest" i see on the User-Guide and Antos's screenshots, am i right?

Secondly, HSFileWatcher is giving me problems: version 0.1.1 will throw me a "HSFileWatcher.exe has stopped working", every time i leave a wheel (example: im inside mame wheel, donkeykong selected, i press ESC to go back to the main menu, it goes back but show me the error, i press "close the program", hs keeps functioning normally, even HSFileWatcher keeps watching if im not mistaken).

Version 0.1.0 gives me another kind of problem: HS starts as a black screen, only sound is heard. As soon as i press a key on my keyboard, HS shows up, but it doesnt has focus, i have to ALT+TAB to focus. Same thing happen when i leave a wheel: screen goes black, only sound is heard, i press a button and it shows up out of focus.

I have tried using both EDS 0.6.7 and 0.7.1, having the same issues with both. It happens even if i check disable everything and leave only HSFileWatcher enabled on EDS config, so it really looks like a HSFileWatcher problem alone.

Well, i guess thats it, hope my english is not too confusing, trying my best :embarassed:

Hi sevenseal, thx for the answer, i do have handle.exe placed correctly. I just uploaded a video (screen capture with subtitles), showing my problems with both HSFileWatcher versions. Maybe im missing something else, and hopefully the video will give a better illustration. Heres the link:

hqve you tried running handle.exe, by openning it and agree to the disclaimer?

if so next, I would run handle.exe with admin rights, do so by bringing up the mouse menu by right click of the mouse and selecting property, the select compatibility tab I think, it should be near the bottom of the menu to check. and give it another try.

the hsfilewatcher, is a small portion program that keeps track of the main menu by movie video format of flv & mp4, it is use to create trigger events for the main menu because hyperspin natively doesnt do that on it own in it current version. it was mention that it would be able to do so in 2.0 but support for that has been dropped.

if you dont use anything in the main menu for hypermarquee, then hsfilewatcher is not needed and can be left disable. hypermarquee function without it

but if you want text or artwork for the main menu to work, you would need hsfilewatcher to work to do so

Hey sevenseal! Thx again, I did set hsfilewatcher to run as admin, but never thought of doing this to handle.exe. And it did the trick! Black screen with version 1.0 is gone, and now I'm able to pull artwork from the main menu!

Ty also for ur explanations about hsfilewatcher man, that clarifies a lot!

I didn't have the time to do a lot of testing, but at least version 1.0 is working now!

Can't wait to get back home and do some more testings!
