Enter Key will not launch games

Hello all - I'm having an issue with Hyperspin and the "Enter" key not working for game launching. It works fine to select items from each menu (e.g. I can press enter from the wheel and go into MAME for example). When I'm in the games list for any system, however, and press enter, nothing happens. No error, no activity at all.

I can back out of menus with escape, navigate with the arrow keys, view favorites, with L, etc. Enter simply stops working when it comes time to select a game and launch it. I ran into this same problem almost a year ago, but now that I'm building a new system I cannot locate the solution anywhere in my notes or in the forums. I have a vague recollection of installing Xpadder, but I'm not sure if that was to handle this issue.

I just find it really odd that everything else works aside from that final press of Enter to launch the game itself. Wish I could remember the fix. Anyone know?

Edit: Apologies, meant to put this in Support

Couple of things spring to mind, have you attached speakers or is HyperLaunch already running if you're using it?

Hey Gigapig, thank you for the reply. Yes, speakers attached and working. I have RocketLaunch installed and everything setup exactly as ghutch has in his guide. Is there a step missing from there? Drives me a little nuts because I know I ran into this same exact issue, and solved it (with help here probably), but I cannot find the resolution and I've forgotten after almost a year. I feel like it's really simple... darn brain.

Edit: I checked the HyperLaunch.log after trying to get a game to run and the last line says "Possible duplicate launch, is already running, closing HyperLaunch". The odd part is that I don't see it running anywhere under processes, etc. Very strange. By the way, I have Win 7 64 running in case that matters.

Edit2/Update: So I decided to go into HyperHQ and change the setting to "Normal" on the MAME wheel instead of using the Launch option. I set the Emulator and ROM path, then tried Hyperspin. The games launch when I hit the "Enter" key if I do this, which is great, but I'm assuming now I lose all the HyperLaunch (RocketLaunch) customization? Definitely seems like something is glitched in my RocketLaunch setup somewhere.

This sounds like the exact same issue I'm having. Using the Beta HyperSpin and the latest RocketLauncher.

I'm using regular HyperSpin, from the link in Ghutch's "how to install" post, not the Beta, so it's independent of that it seems. Anyone else have thoughts? If there's a lot or something I could post to help, please let me know. Thnx

On my setup I press "1" to launch a game from the wheel. I can't remember if that is default or if I simply changed my controls to be that.

Changing the Hyperspin controls in HyperHQ doesn't work?

Posted

I decided to revert back to an older version by copying the entire contents of my Hyperspin folder from my old MAME PC to this one. Everything works great.

So clearly something I changed back when I did this pre-RocketLauncher days got around this issue, but something about the newer install is not functioning quite right the way. I'll keep tinkering with it (I've got a HyperSpin_Test folder setup with RocketLaunch) and I'll let folks know if I figure it out. But for me, the answer was to use older versions and HyperLaunch.

Sadly no, I tried changing the keybinds to various other things instead of Enter. I tried ' , 1 , = all sorts of things... no luck.

Can you post your Hyperspin settings.iini.

gigapig, is the HyperSpin Settings what you are looking for? Mine is attached. If not, please let me know. Mine is supposed to be set to start up when the #1 button is pressed, not Enter, but the same type of issue as the OP is occurring. Note: I saved it as a .txt file to upload because the site wouldn't let me upload an .ini. I have the .ini file in my folder.

Settings.txt

Posted

line 2

Hyperlaunch_Path=.\RocketLauncher\RocketLauncher.exe

line 11

Hyperlaunch_Path=D:\Hyperspin\HyperLaunch\

you should only have line 11

Then how does it know to launch RocketLauncher? I had it without Line 2 before and it did the same thing. I added line 2 manually based off ghutch guide and it's doing the same thing.

Posted

my point is that it can't have two lines with different paths.

Ghutchs guide tells you to  change your path, not add a new Hyperlaunch_Path line

  • HyperSpin 1.4 Get back in your HyperSpin folder. This time we are gonna do some manual ini editing  :afraid:. Open your Settings folder in your HyperSpin folder C:\HyperSpin\Settings. Find the file named Settings.ini, open it in notepad. you should see at the top a line that reads [Main]. Right up under the [Main] line add Hyperlaunch_Path=.\RocketLauncher\RocketLauncher.exe

That doesn't say change path, that says add. Any suggestions on how to make it work? Like I said, I ran it without the Line 2 and it was doing the same thing.

THANK YOU THIS WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Oh MY GOD!!!!!!  I did a complete new install of Hyperspin 3x now...and this was what was missing.  Going over Austin's videos frame by frame to make sure I didn't miss a check box of some sort.  That really does suck.  But I AM SOOO HAPPY NOW I CAN FINALLY SLEEP.

ALTHOUGH...in Austin's Install the RocketLauncher is not in a sub folder from HyperSpin...

So I just adjusted it to:

Hyperlaunch_Path=.\RocketLauncher.exe

In Austin's videos he says why would anyone pay $400 for a Hyperspin drive?  LOL  I've worked waYYyyyyy over $400 in earnings to make this thing work.

Please please please, anyone using Austins How to install Hyperspin guide, please mention it in your post if you have a problem. He installs HyperLaunch in an "unofficial" way by not having HyperLaunch in it's own folder, instead placing the contains of the HyperLaunch zip into the HyperSpin folder.

I think it's done that way so you don't need to edit the setting.ini, but extracting the Hyper/RocketLauncher folder into the hyperspin folder mixes both the "Media" and "Settings" folders which both programs share. You will also overwrite the Autohotkey.dll which has a different file size between the two, but I'm not sure that would cause issue.

Mixing the "Media" and "Settings" folder could cause future troubleshooting issues if nothing else, as we would be looking in the wrong location for it.

If you open the new RocketLauncher zip you will see RocketLauncher is in a folder by default and for a very good reason. You also do not need to install RocketLauncher inside the HyperSpin folder as it can be anywhere on you PC.

When you first run RocketLauncher UI you will need to set up your default emulator and point to your front end path.

So please keep RockerLauncher in it's own folder.

That's good info to know and the first time I've seen it mentioned here.

I followed his guide and have my Hyperlaunch folder in my Hyperspin folder. So does that mean when I go to update to the newest Hyperspin and newest Rocketlauncher that I'm screwed?

It sounds like I might be better off starting from scratch all over again, since I'd have no way of knowing what was overwritten, what is mixed up, what is in the wrong spot etc...

Could that also explain why AutoHotKey settings in Keymapper don't seem to work or register at all in any game (even though they work in test mode)?

Did you mean your HyperLaunch exe? I cannot say if you will get problems, maybe yes, maybe no. For some this method may work, but I doubt they have tested every aspect and every feature to be sure. One person may use bezels and then has issues another who doesn't may not.

I would install RocketLauncher how djvj etc have theirs setup, then you can be sure and you can get the correct support. It would also be very annoying to spend hours setting all this up only to be told it's wrong please reinstall as recommended.

Exactly what I'm worried about. I just checked on the Rocketlauncher forums and there's a sticky for how to move the Hyperlaunch folder back out of the Hyperspin folder easily.

Once Hyperspin 1.4 is out of Beta I'll fix my folder stricter, then update it all then.

I finally got my roms to load in HyperSpin using RocketLauncher. I noticed that for whatever reason, using HyperHQ caused the roms not to load. I did a fresh install of HyperSpin and didn't use HyperHQ at all and it worked. I tried to change some of the setting in HyperHQ and it quit working again, so I redid it again and now it's working. But, that leads me to my next questions. Are you not able to use HyperHQ at all when using RocketLauncher? If you are, what settings can you change in HyperHQ that will allow it to keep working?

I'm using HyperlaunchHQ (not Rocketlauncher) and I never set any rom paths etc... in HyperHQ.

I just use it to set the other Hyperspin stuff. Wheels, controls, wheel settings, program launching etc...

Only thing that need to be set in HyperHq is the roms path and extensions and that is only if you are going to be using wheel filters.

You don't need to set the rom paths in it, but I used it for things like changing the button config in HyperSpin to match my cab's control panel. Was using it for a couple other things too. That's why I'm asking what, if anything, that you can use it for?

Edit: I seem to have it working. I think there must have been some settings that I was selecting that didn't like playing along with each other.

Hi all, im afraid i have the same issue here. Ive done fresh installs of Hyperspin 1.3.3 and Rocket LauncherUI. Ive installed them in a seperate directory and i have the very same issue, just cant launch games from MAME using Hyperspin although games work fine launching them from RocketLauncherUI.

Ill give the suggestions here a try when i get home tonight, hope they work.

Thanks all.

The only way I was able to get past this issue on my system was by following the instructions here. http://www.rlauncher.com/wiki/index.php?title=Transition_From_HyperLaunch3

If you scroll down until you see the picture they have for HyperHQ below the section titled "B: HyperSpin v 1.3 - Transitioning HyperSpin inis to work with RocketLauncher" and follow the directions listed below you should be good to go. Here is how each executable should look for each system your Enter key is not working on. Refer to the link above for more details.
