  • When adding a new MAME system, not all ROMs will import.  I have 3318 ROMs but only 1986 were imported.

Hmmm Not sure what MAME you are running if that is the case.

My mame folder has 15,113 ZIP files for the MAME Merged set and another 648 folders for the CHD files.

and when you do a search for the "files" in MAME you get this

"As of the latest MAME releases, the "files list" contains information for over 7,000 unique games and around 10,000 individual ROM image sets; however, not all of these games are fully playable depending on the set and available ROMs."

If you only have that many files you aren't running with a "full set".

PleasureDome is your friend. I'm running MAME 0.273 ROMs (merged) and the current CHDs as well.

MAME should be the easiest set to add and with Hyperspin 1.5  I have 4,880 working roms on my wheel yet running it through Hyperspin 2 it only finds 2,920 (with skipping anything)

This is the same with Launchbox (7 years after it was released) so they are both obviously using the sane crap scraper.

We need an option where it imports EVERY rom in the folder you point to like all the other sets (then you can at least use dummy roms for the importing.

    using MAME 0.273 non merged.

There are roughly 5,200 working roms (excluding clones) MAME 0.274, yet it only scrapes 2,900 of them.

xml’s worked much better for MAME as it literally found them all.

I can confirm this same issue. I have 331 roms, on .272 non-merged. HS only picks up 239. I've tried deleting the system and readding, clear caches etc. Still only imports 239. It seems that the show unmatched roms option isn't working either. as clearly I have a large amount unmatched but it shows nothing when that option is selected.

Of the 15,113 of your ROMs, how many of them imported into HQ2?

All of my ROMs are confirmed as working in HS1 using the most current version of MAME.  I've been working on perfecting the operation of HS and MAME on my arcade machine for six years now.  That's why I wanted to be a part of the beta testing.  Any new version of software should be equal to or better than the original as far as functionality goes.  When I can load all my working ROMs manually in the original version, but all of them won't import automatically, that's a problem that needs to be solved and that is base level functionality.

Plus, why would I want a full set?  Half of those games are garbage clones.  I have only selected the ROMs for original games.  That's my preference.

Nope.  Tell that to all the other people that expect it to import all their ROMs too.

Is there a way to import roms one at a time or are we stuck hoping HQ2 grabs them all? I only got 13 roms imported of 1600.

I have simialar problems. I have the full merged MAME 0.273 romset, and cannot get all games into HyperHQ. I have approx 15000 rom files (not sure how many games) but only get approx 1900 games into HyperHQ.

I have tried changing the prioritized region and get different results. Some games only appars in certain regions. E.g. Bubble Bobble (Japan ver) only appears when I set the prioritized region to Japan. My guess is that the prioritized region shouldn't remove any games, only choose the correct version when there are several options. So maybe it is a filtering problem? You could maybe add an option "no prioritazion" to se how that works.

It also seems that the Merge clones together removes some games (that do not have clones).

    I hope this helps.

what you did there is called beta testing.  this is how we make a final product...lots of beta testing...the issue is noted an will be addressed.  in the meantime please have a little more patience as we are working around the clock in effort to iron out all these issues  thanks

I appreciate your comment and thank you for acknowledging my effort to help in the beta test.  I would like to point out that I am not being impatient, just responding to other comments that are telling me to "lower my expectations" and insinuating I don't know what I'm doing.  I am more than happy to wait for resolution of this issue because I know it takes time to recreate the issue, troubleshoot, make corrections, test, troubleshoot more, make corrections, test again (rinse & repeat as necessary), then release the fix; because I have been in the same boat as you all many times in the past.

Ok.  First, a big thank you to @thatman84 for giving me the location of the logs.

After reviewing the ROM import process in the logs, it appears that part of the issue of not all ROMs being imported, is because of the 2-player priority selection when setting up the import parameters.  The import process is rejecting all 3-player and 4-player games, even though almost all of them can still be played by 2 players.  It seems like instead of this "prioritizing" the games it is filtering and only importing 2-player games.  I feel there should be an option that allows that parameter to be ignored.

The rest are being filtered out because they are "imperfect".  I feel here there should be an option to allow us as users to either skip imperfect ROMs or allow them to be imported.  I know that several of the ROMs are imperfect, but most still work.  This could also be a possible mismatch of ROM to MAME version.  Please let us know if that's an accurate deduction.

Another issue I see in the log is, only the first letter of the game name is displayed on the line stating it was "Filtered Out".  I feel it would be beneficial to display the entire game name so we can go out and get the latest version of the ROM, if I am correct in the fact it was filtered out because of the ROM version and MAME version mismatch.

I hope this adds some clarity as to what the issue is.  I know I feel better. 🙂

Lots of great feedback here. I would like to echo the comments above thanking all of you for taking time to give feedback on this.

So first, we're moving the logs soon. Too many people have commented on the fact that they don't know where they are. So we're going to move them local to each app (both HQ and HS) and we're going to be adding a log viewer in the settings for those who dont want to go digging.

Next, I see what you mean by the filtering logic excluding 3 and 4 players. I think changing it from a filter to a true preference is what we should do. So if there is a rom that has a two and a 4 player version, we select the 2. Either that or have a "no preference" option.

I can allow imperfect roms as a checkbox.

I'll look at making the logs a little clearer for users as well.

    Thanks everyone!

Having to choose either 2 player or 4 player is an odd one.   Why not both?

Import 2 Player versions of games that have multiple options?  yes/no

Import 4 Player versions of games that have multiple options?  yes/no

I know I'm in the minority, but I also know at least a couple other folks out there have setups that can be both 2 and 4 player setups.   I have 2x two player cabinets, that can be linked together to create a four player cabinet with mirrored screens (all hardware).   So sometimes I want the two player version, sometimes I want the 4 player version.

Although this only matters for a few titles that have characters hard locked to play number.   If you can choose you character regardless of what player slot you are, its 4 player version always.

If you have a 2 player cab, it makes sense to prioritize children that are 2 player.

I'm saying don't prioritize at all.  Just ask the questions.

So if you say 'yes' to both questions, you'll end up with two entries for the same game on your wheel.  One for the 2 player rom, One for the 4 player rom.

If you've only got a two player cab, just say "no" to the 4 player question.

So with the new option for custom systems, I am able to import all my MAME roms. The problem now is, they're not matched against any sort of database. HQ won't pull rom names, emumovies won't pull any media etc. when custom importing. Unless I'm not doing something right.
