sparton Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Hi! I have taken a look through most of the tutorials here and what I can find online. Forgive me if I missed anything glaring but I am a little lost and was hoping someone could help! I have the Unified Mega Theme (thanks Gibbawho!!), and I have the .PSD files, but I am a bit of a Photoshop noob. I want to swap some themes out - Master System etc and I know I can open the PSD file in Photoshop, pick my layers - artwork etc, but I cannot figure out how to then export that as a theme! (Default.zip or MasterSystem.zip for example). Could someone please advise or point me in the direction of a tutorial maybe? Thank you!
iNTiGOD Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Once you are happy with how your photoshop file is setup save the format as .psd then you need to import the PSD file within the hypertheme program. A couple pointers though. You need the layers named correctly before you export the psd. Watch this tutorial for more info. Also MasterSystem.zip would be used for the main menu and default.zip is for the menu when you launch into a system (e.g to see the master system games). PS. if you need 4:3 ratio themes I have some to share that are based on gibbawho's great work. Let me know. MAME High Score Tutorial For HyperSpin
sparton Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 Amazing, thanks very much for the reply iNTiGod, really helpful. I've not used HyperTheme yet but it looks pretty straightforward. I did try to import the PSD but it didnt do anything. I presume probably because I didnt do any of the renaming of layers. Will give it a shot tonight. I'm aiming for 16:9 so good for now, but thank you again!
sparton Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 ahhh, :S I still cannot figure it out! It's not Hyper theme, I just don't know what to do with the Theme in Photoshop! Can anyone give me a few pointers perhaps? Do I have to merge or delete the images/layers I am not using Do I rename the image, or the folder it is within. I believe I have to rename to Artwork 1, 2, 3, 4, Video and background then export, then import in to Hyper Theme but Hyper theme won't recognize the psd file so I don't think I have named things right. any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Metalzoic Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 In Photoshop the layers are named (top to bottom) Artwork4 (no spaces) Artwork3 Artwork2 Artwork1 Background Your videos will appear above Artwork1 & below Artwork2. To make a 16:9 theme I do this: Arrange all my layers/art etc in photoshop at either 1920 x 1080 (72 pixel resolution) or 1366 x 768 (72px) Once you have it how you want it you need to resize it to 1024 x 768 or it won't work in Hypertheme. Layers must be named correctly. Do not merge the layers. Then open Hypertheme and pick import from PSD. Load your file and it should pop up in the Hypertheme window. Edit, arrange, animate. Then when you're done fill in the title info down below in the info section and click on the save disk. It will automatically zip it into as theme and drop it into the Themes folder in the Hypertheme directory.
sparton Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 Thanks a lot both, I will give it another try this evening! Really appreciate the help.
Metalzoic Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Sure. That's the ghetto way to make it widescreen. The really high res 1080 flash animated ones are possible to make, but require Flash and a lot of extra steps. I've read through threads on it and I still am not sure how they do it.
