Disc Based Emulation... what a headache.

Ok...

I am at a loss with these disc-based systems...

I've been able to load up Sonic CD on Sega CD via fusion.
I've even been able to mount Sonic Jam for Sega Saturn with Daemon Tools Lite 10 and load it with SSF.

But whenever I try to do anything with Hyperspin and/or RetroArch, all I get is errors.

I can't find a proper tutorial. Everything uses an old version of Daemon Tools, or it tells me to do things that I don't even see. I've tried Daemon Tools 4, but the options for the SCSI drive aren't even there...

This is one of the last big obstacles in my way of completing my build and I would really appreciate any assistance with this, it's driving me mad lol.

Systems I am trying to do this with (for reference)

Sega CD
Sega Saturn
NEC TurboGrafx CD/PC-E CD
Panasonic 3DO
Neo Geo CD (Only for Samurai Showdown RPG)

It may also be worth noting that I have Sega CD inside the Genesis Wheel.
Also the TurboGrafx CD/PC-E CD is in the TG16 wheel.
and, obviously, Neo Geo CD is in the AES wheel.

I know, that's weird 'cause no one wants to do that, but I think it's stupid to have a whole seperate wheel for 4-5 games lol

Not sure what knock on effect having the systems mixed up would have... although Im sure thats figured. however, for the emus...

Sega CD and Turbografix/NEC stuff.... RetroArch is funny about the file type. Not sure if they fixed it in the module, but it doesnt like ccd file formats. :(

Saturn... keep with SSF. RA will run it but its still got a long way to go :)

3DO Just use FourDO. Its a great emu, easy to setup and runs great. No need for mount off top of my head?

NeoGeo CD... loads of ways to play this!

Now for the Daemon tools. sounds like you have the right idea. But you need tthe OLDER version of DT lite version 4 off the top of my head. Theres a copy in Rons FTP folder or even the rLauncher site has a full download there too :)

And also just for another system... hows about the PS1 :) (excuse to put it up hehehe)

However, I even run some emulators such as the one used in this vid with a mounted drive... even though they dont really need it.  Its a complicated subject, but trust me, having a mounted drive will help in the long run :)

I have noticed a few issues I'm still looking into with mixing the systems. For instance Fusion will run Genesis and 32X games just fine together, but when I try to do the same thing with RA on a 32X game, I get an error saying I shouldn't be trying to play a 32X game on a genesis lol so I'll need to figure that out.

I think all my file types are either ISO or BIN/CUE, but I will keep an eye out for the CCD ones.
(and I ALWAYS unzip, so I know that's not an issue)

Sega CD - I've been able to load Sonic CD without issue in fusion, but retroarch just gives me a black screen.
Turbo CD - I think it's definitely the file types, I played with it more on my break, and was able to load Rondo of Blood to at least the opening cinematic. ( I found 4 differant file formats with this game online hahaha )
Neo Geo CD - I haven't tried this one yet to be honest, simply because Samurai Showdon RPG seems to be the only exclusive to that format.
3DO - I have used 4DO, and it's great, but I want the shaders of RetroArch lol I was able to get it to start in RA, but instead of loading a game it loaded the BIOS and said "insert CD" or something similiar. I did notice it uses the 4DO core, so I thought it would act the same lol.
Saturn - Good to know it's better in SSF, I haven't tried this in RA yet, but I couldn't get Hyperspin to use Daemon properly.

I'll have to try out the version of DT 4 posted at RL's website. Hopefully that will get me up and running.

As for Playstation, I've never had any issues with ePSXe loading games. I just don't have it fully integrated into my build yet because I mostly play it on my PS2 hardware.

I think i have an older version of DTLite.  I kept the setup somewhere I think.  When something works, sometimes it breaks when updating, so I haven't even begun to think about doing anything to Daemon Tools.  I only use fusion for sega cd.  It's been so long since i've looked at it, but it seemed like fusion loads the iso file so no mounting is needed.  I second 4DO, and SSF.  IIRC, all I did was point HL/RL to DTLite, made a scsi drive in dtlite,...and there was something in SSF where you had to select that scsi drive and checkmark it.  I had a lot of trouble with SSF early on, because it didn't notice the normal dtlite virtual drive, or something like that.  I'll have to double check it.

GOOD NEWS, I got 3DO to load on my lunch break in RA on the 4DO Core!!

I thought about the file extensions, and realized that it probably searches the accepted file types 1 by 1 based on what's listed in RL and takes whatever it finds first to be the proper game file.

Sure enough, I re-listed it as ' iso|cue|bin ' and it loaded right up.

I downloaded a version of DTLite 4 the other day, but I wasn't able to find the option all the youtube tutorials pointed to to add an SCSI drive. I'm going to try the version posted on RL's site later today when I get home.

Rocket Launcher now supports Daemon Tools 10.  You may give it a shot.  They are charging for it now (10.1), but I think you can get the 10 version over on the rocketlauncher forums.  I had it work with SSF.  The older versions gave me SCSI errors all the tims (with 64-bit Windows 8.1).

Update:

So, I FINALLY got my english "Castlevania - Rondo of Blood" to load through RetroArch. You were absolutely right, it was the file formats. I had some weird cue/wav/iso format... I loaded the cue in DTLite 4 (the one hosted on RL has that SCSI drive option, more on that in a moment) and then ripped it to a bin/cue with IMGburn... it booted right up.

Remaining Issues:

I still can't get Sega CD to load for the life of me... it loads fine in fusion. It's a bin/cue with a bunch of music files.

Ok, so I got DTLite installed, beautiful. I installed the STPD (sp?) driver, and rebooted... but everytime I go to mount the SCSI drive, I get a message saying I need to install the driver and reboot. I did it like 4 times, and no change.

I have the same problem. Can't install the STPD driver. However I have my Sega CD working fine with retroarch. It's most likely your rom set. Retroarch is very picky. If I remember correctly I had to download a new rom set for Sega CD and 3DO just to get them to work with Retroarch.

I had that error for AAAAAAAGES when I started all this.  It stopped me running the disc based systems for quite some time.  It has something to do with an error in the registry getting screwed up if I remember right?

I don't suppose it would be proper of me to inquire as to where you were able to find a working Romset? lol

Oh wow, Registry stuff is usually way above my head. Do you think that using a registry cleaner would resolve the issue? I know of CCcleaner, though I usually use Auslogics for such things.

If you are on Windows 10 trying to install Dtlite v4 stpd driver will not install. I use virtual clone drive, small light and work well. I had a look at v10 of Dtools but it seems riddle with ads and what not

Yes, I am on Windows 10, I always forget to think about compatibility issues lol.

I've never heard of Virtual Clone Drive, I may have to look into this.

Do you just place it's .exe where RocketLauncher normally points to DTLite?

Install then point it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Elaborate Bytes\VirtualCloneDrive\vcdmount.exe

I'm on 64bit so if you're on 32bit it will be different
