emb Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 What is the status? Is this server permanently down? Should we just switch over to efnet permanently? Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2 %5BSIGPIC%5D[/sIGPIC] Download HyperSpin Tools and check out my MAME cabinet
djvj Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Supposedly a payment was made but nogarth and I were talking this morning about just setting up our own IRC server as the software runs on Linux and Windows. emb Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Why are we not using efnet? It is stable and does not require the need to maintain a server. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2 %5BSIGPIC%5D[/sIGPIC] Download HyperSpin Tools and check out my MAME cabinet
brolly Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Good question, is there really a need to spend money on an IRC server (or even have our own server)?
djvj Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Yea that's what we discussed, I'd rather have our own. emb Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Why? There are several efnet servers. If one of the servers goes down, you can simply connect to another one. If you have a personal server sitting in a bedroom or garage, then you likely will not have as much uptime, without redundancy. If an upgrade or issue occurs, then everyone depends on that one person to fix the server. If they are on vacation, the downtimes could be even longer. From a quality standpoint, I think efnet wins. From an isolation standpoint, having an internal server would be nice. Sent from my Galaxy Tab 2 using tapatalk 2 %5BSIGPIC%5D[/sIGPIC] Download HyperSpin Tools and check out my MAME cabinet
bmosley Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 while i like the idea of our own server... just because i like it.. emb's right. EFnet is gonna be easier on everyone
emb Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 After some time on efnet; I think I retract my statement. Sometimes it takes a few tries to connect. Then again, there is not a lot of people who use it. On a side note, djvj and eminem: I miss bsing on the old server. Why not pop on to the temporary server? bmosley Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Odd, never once had a connection issue with efnet. Maybe try using a different server? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
zerojay Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 If you've never had a problem with efnet, you've never been on it.
mameshane Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 If you've never had a problem with efnet, you've never been on it. is that how it got its name ? ef'd net My Cab.. 1-UP ARCADE new hyperspin irc details.. come hang out!
bmosley Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Oh I've had problems with it but not with connecting. Maybe living in the Silicon Valley helps. Mostly those nasty splits but more often than not, it's reliable. Freenode is good too but not any better from efnet. That said, I don't use it it as much as I did in the late 90s and early 2000s. DonCorleon Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Well im happy to run a second server over here in Aussieland as a redundancy thing......
Guest MadCoder Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I agree efnet is as old as MUDS. I think that would be the best place for it
djreddog Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Did we make a decision on this? I'm connected to Efnet, but #hyperspin looks dead with only 3 people in it.
mameshane Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29876 we changed servers... My Cab.. 1-UP ARCADE new hyperspin irc details.. come hang out!
