Bliss Box 4-play compatibility

Doesn't it come with the most up to date already installed?

I'm sorry but I just had to comment, how could a device predict update ;) The device comes with the latest firmware at the time of print but certainyl there will always be update, or it would never get better. Each firmware update has its changes explained in the txt file.

the 4-play fix is not the update tool, make sure you know what things are before using them. 4-play has its own update method in the manual on the site you bought it from. The fix tool is an advanced 3rd part tool.

No. And no response from BlissBox support yet, either

Where did you send your question, all have been answered since my return. If you are the one that posted about retro arch on the forums, that I can not answer, if you have issues with the 4-play fix you can ask on the groups FB page.

Thanks. I realize that about updates but is this basically saying it's time for an firmware update already?

Can you post the link to the firm update process and instructions? Also what's this 3rd party tool update for?

That screen is from the unofficial firmware updater

http://atarigalore.wix.com/4play

sounds cool but would love to get Windows 7 tested please

I tried looking on the manual link for instructions on how to update firmware, may be a dumb question but how do you do that again? I see the links in the download page but am cautious as to what to do with them. I assume the box has all those updates already? How do we know what all needs updated? Will there be announcements and if so where can I subscribe to them in a feed? I looked on the forum and unsure if there is a topic but it would be amazing if u email blast or send a feed through tapachat

The updating is like any software release. There are WIP's (work in progress) and stable versions. The unit came flashed with 1.51 and we are now at 1.53. The latest WIP has lots of major fixes and will be submitted to 1.54 soon. The WIP version is like a beta, once it passes all QA checking it is ready for a stable release. The downloads are on the

http://4-play.bliss-box.net page

The manual has the info for flashing, it has screen shots and is very easy to follow. If that does not work for you try brudibru, post above.

Sure, thanks for getting back with me.

On the site there are several files posted, do I just need the file called 4play 1.53 or do I need every file posted at http://www.anyfile.io/wix/download?id=f5c01bcfdd9538d344927e3611645ad5

Lastly, do you have a cycle like is it the last mon of every month that there is a stable release or do you just announce it. If you announce it, can you post to this site or does your site support tapachat that I'm missing?

Also where am I saving these files at. Sorry that was my original question, where do I put these files. Will the stable release be tested on xp, win 7?

Ninja,

I can try to help.

To Flash your device you need to get the flashtool.exe and the file called "4-play(1.53).hex".

Launch the Flashtool abd it will try to detect your device.

It didn't worked for me at first and I had to manually specify the VendorID and the ProductID.

If you are in the same case and you don't know how to find the ID's I will explain to you.

When the device is detected you just have to select the .hex file (from where you have downloaded it)and then start the update and that's it (you don't need to keep the hex file anymore).

Apart from detecting the device (in my case) it is very simple and I can only recommend to do it.

I think Ulao will update the Firmware only when there will be significant improvements, which can means new joysticks supported or troubleshooting the eventual bugs (but that's only my opinion and I can't speak for him). Anyway there is no need for regular updates as the device is working pretty well as it is now and it's not like an emulator which can be improved all the time.

Concerning the unofficial update that was mentioned earlier in this thread I have not tried it as Newoski had some trouble with it and I don't know if it's safe or not.

Hope it can help.

Ninja, The txt file is for whats changed the hex is for the flash, that is all you need if you have the flasher. The WIP has no cycle, nor do releases. It is not constant development, only per issue. Stable releases come out after the testing is concluded. Files are not put anywhere they are flashed. See the post above me or stop by the main page and read the manual.

All, we are testing the EBAY market. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Play-A-universal-retro-adapter-snes-nes-sega-gc-dc-saturn-n64-psx-db9-/171998956131?

Also testing the market for cables.

VB cable up for auction

This is a test market do not bid if you are not interested. Although the goal is to get the price of these non-produced cables down to $2, we must raise the funds and interest. These actions are for people that are willing to pay high dollars for cables that are not currently being produced. Everyone else must wait for production. These cables are few, not may actuation's will take place.

If the cord can't be part of the set you produced, I would think snk neo geo, sega saturn, nec turbografx16, or even colecovision would be greater success just because of all the systems available, virtual boy probably failed the most and has such a small game library? Good luck

for the people having trouble with my custom flasher not seeing one port...

the flasher is bootloadHID commandline version, thats the same code the official flasher uses but no gui.

if it doesn't see one port try the official flasher it should have same problem with same port. try that and let me know.

all ports work to flash on mine and multiple others too..

side note my 4play was having trouble with 1 port in win10 but worked fine in win7 so I flashed the latest WIP in win7 with my flasher and now all ports show and are flashable in win10.

something to do with how it initializes was giving my win10 trouble but the WIP fixed it for me anyways.

also I was not using the usb cable it comes with.

Newoski was having the problem and I hope he can read your answer and try your fix.

Nice toy see that you have subscribed to this forum to give us an answer.

I have not tried your firmware myself as I had many problems at first with the bliss Box until I changed the USB cable as you did (and I am running Win10)

Can you explain again briefly the advantages of your firmware?

So question for everyone who has it, how are you enjoying it compared to a 360 or ps3 controller with everything?  I just ordered mine and should be here tomorrow I'm quite anxious to mess around with it.  Now to start getting old controllers

the only thing my flasher does is flash the firmware straight from ulao.

the only thinh different is 3 of the hex files are hex edited with 3 different product id's so all 4 ports are in order and it imports 4 reg files for windows that renames each port 1,2,3, and 4. you need to right click run as admin for the reg importing to work.

I had to RMA both of my BlissBox's. Port 3 didn't work with your firmware on either of them. After your firmware didn't work, I tried to flash the stock firmware and it didn't see the port...

I just sent my RMA devices back. Haven't received the new ones, but I'm pretty nervous to try flashing ANY updates/custom firmware to the devices at this point...

You should not be worried about flashing. There are only two things you need to know. And trust me, I have flashed well over 10,000 times.

1, Never let go of that button. Although 99.9% of the time it will not hurt anything, it can.

2, To fix any bad flash, no matter how it was done do the follow.

 a. press and hold down the reset button,

 b. unplug the device (keep that button down.)

 c. plug in the device (keep that button down.)

 d. Now its in upgrade mode, flash it.(keep that button down.)

 e. Ok now let go.

Its the same thing you need to do if you put the box in xbox mode and want to go back to 4-play mode.

Troubles with buttons?

Plug in a psx pad and jumper as seen here (works with jag to but that cable is not available)

This is the same thing is holding down reset.

Hi all. I believe I've spurred all this discussion about flashing techniques by posting on the bliss-box forum and contacting atari directly. When I recieved my bliss-box I mapped my snes/nes/dualshock controllers in all my emulators and life was good. The next time I plugged it in, I experienced the same problem as others have had where all the joypad IDs were in a different order and needed to remap them. Enter atari's fix firmware. I decided flashing that would be a good idea.

However after doing so, I am now experiencing the exact same issue Newoski is describing. I flashed ports 1 and 2, and when I got to the third, it was not responding exactly the same as he showed in his screenshot. I then proceeded to flash port 4. So now I had a bliss-box with the 4playfix firmware working correctly on ports 1, 2, and 4 and no matter what I do, port 3 is gone.

Pressing the reset button does not trigger the disconnect noise in Windows like the other ports do. I've tried holding it, disconnecting the cable, reconnecting while still holding, and it will still not put the device into update mode. I've tried a different USB cable, and I've tried 2 different computers running Windows 10 x64 and Windows 8 x64 respectively and nothing is working.

I've also flashed the 1.53 firmware on the official site, and still I only have 3 working ports. I was able to run the flash tool holding the upgrade button on ports 1,2, and 4, but when I try it on port 3, the flash tool fails to detect that I'm holding the upgrade button. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bill

i don't know but as I said earlier on my computer at least I had same problem in win10 which is basicly win8, but I realized for some reason (maybe something to do with initialization) all 4 ports worked on same computer on win7 and in linux. I flashed the latest wip firmware in win7 and now all ports work and I have reflashed even in win10 now without problem...

try that if possible.

I don't have a Win 7 machine to work with anymore. I do have a Ubuntu machine that I can give the college try on. It's a headless server though, so can I run the flash tool from the command line?

As an aside I made a video for ulao after he requested I tried the jumper method to flash. Here's a demonstration of the problem newoski and myself are facing:
