Tumpulele Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Hi all, Apologies in advance if this is the wrong board for this inquiry. Feel free to move it if needed. New to HyperSpin and working on getting everything set up. The community has done some amazing work with artwork, however it seems wheel art is lacking for some platforms. I am interested in creating new wheel art for myself and make it available for others as well, but I do not have much familiarity with digital imagery and it's certainly not one of my strong suits. Is there a tutorial that explains how to do this? I assume the images are generally extracted from in-game title screens or from boxes in the case of monochrome systems, but I don't really know how to go about separating the title logo from the rest of the image and then sizing it accordingly. If there isn't a tutorial on this already specifically for HyperSpin, general imaging instructions that would help accomplish this task would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
SkyHighGam3r Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I'm sure a moderator will be able to move this to "Graphic & Theme Creation"I agree with you about the wheelart, and I've had to make a good deal of it myself.I don't know of a tutorial off hand, but basically the wand tool in photoshop & google are your best friends. You can even just search for "<Game Name> Logo PNG" and you can find wheel art that will work just fine, though you may need to resize it (sometimes it's HUGE).If you are working on older systems, I recommend pulling off boxart rather than title screens, as the title screens are rarely as HQ as the boxes. Welcome to to the community, I look forward to seeing what you put together.

rastan Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 There is a kustom art tool (i believe that's the name) which is great for making nice wheel art for your wheels.. when I first got the program I thought it was a creation tool so I was a bit lost but what it actually does is take your IMAGES and makes them all look nice and neat when you add them to hyperspin. (definitely a tool to use) As for creation of images.. it depends on what you want to do.. for windows users you could just open up PAINT and create titles for games using different cool fonts and then use the Kustom tool to make them look better. Personally when I needed art for systems on my main menu wheel.. I just went to google images and searched for the systems I needed then resized the images with a online image resizer and then added them to my main menu wheel. recently I started thinking about doing that for game wheels like PSP because I don't have any wheel art for it.. so I may just create my own PSP wheel art by cropping the actual GAME BOX or other images for the games I need. Right now some of the stuff I can't seem to find are wheel art for SEGA CLASSICS, NINTENDO CLASSICS, WILLIAMS CLASSICS (and system menu for Williams Classics).
rastan Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 This post gave me some motivation to do some wheel art for my PSP games. I basically used these simple tools/methods 1. GOOGLE IMAGES to find the game boxes I needed 2. PICRESIZE (FREE online tool to quickly resize images and change format) I could have used a tool I have installed on my other laptop but the work flow of downloading the images from google searches and just uploading them to PICRESIZE just worked for me.. and I'm doing my PSP from scratch so just the stuff I need and want. 3. PAINT (the basic paint program bundled with windows) always loved this program to do quick photo editing.. used it to crop the game boxes for titles. 4. AUTOKUSTOM (the cool tool to help make hyperspin wheel art) basically this allows you to give the images a better look (add backgrounds if you like but I always use solids... add borders, etc) when you see the before and after it just makes your hyperspin look much more cleaner and professional.

rastan Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Here is a sample of the wheel art I just did for my PSP games.
rastan Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Is there a PSP system default? I'm using the minis.. it works but I think I rather have a PSP system default.. not really a big deal.. looks cool to me.
SkyHighGam3r Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 If you've got a little bit of an eye for design, using hypertheme to create themes is SUPER easy. I've made about 4 versions of every main/default theme in my build. (I keep changing my mind on how I want it setup)
32assassin Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 their are a few tutorials here http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/tutorials/category/29-wheels/ go to YouTube and watch as many videos on the pen tool as you can find. For Gimp , Corel Draw or Photoshop. The Pen tool is probably the most important tool to learn, you use it to cut out images from High Quality boxes or flyers (for arcades) scans. the pen tool is also used to make custom shapes (AKA: drawing). This method is used when a High Quality scan are not available. You basically use the pen tool to trace the low quality artwork creating High quality duplicate. once you mastered the pen tool you will see that you will be able to cut out a large portion of wheels. quick search, this is the basic process of cutting wheels from box or flyers scans.
