demonseed Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Hey GuysWondering what tools I should use to clean/optimize my HD? What software should be disabled on load etc? Trying to optimize my system for HS and optimize the USB drives that have all my games. Any suggestions is much appreciated.
gigapig Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Never bothered doing things like that, I thought Windows would handle it. Perhaps a lint free cloth
dougan78 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Defrag for hard drives built into windows. Ccleaner to keep registry and temp files clean. Disk cleanup in Windows to remove windows updates temp files. Good luck.
Styphelus Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Do you even have to defrag anymore? Thought windows did that on it's own.
iNTiGOD Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Lets put things in perspective. When extracting large CD/DVD based games how much measurable improvement is going to be gained when comparing a fragmented drive vs defragged drive? Are we talking milliseconds? Compare any gains to the time spent defragging a drive.... I think the biggest gains are seen by compressing roms in a format that can be extracted quicker e.g. rar5. I learned from that mistake lol. Btw, must will know this anyway but you should never defrag an SSD, and I hope Windows and other programs wouldn't let you.
Guest Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Yeah all of these tasks are no required in later versions of Windows as the are auto managed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Absolutely true, and no, Windows will still have scheduled defrags on by default. demonseed Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 I have two USB drives about 75 percent full. I have windows on a regular drive. Hs is on the USB. I wanted to clean any junk that downloads may have left and be sure the drive is optimized. I run windows 7 and not a pc guy much. I know I turned off auto updates etc as they are annoying and slowed things down. In the old days I used to have to defeat, scan disc, virus check, malware, adware and cleanne program regular. I also wanted to know what apps and services and processes can e stopped to hae th most pc resources avail . That's Jim
