Deezdrama
I just finished my arcade cab and am using an old hyperspin setup I made years ago. Its running HS 1.2 and mame 1.49 I am trying to recompile a new setup using a new 2tb hdd. I have HS 1.4 installed and RL and everything setup . Now Ive hit a road block.... Im trying to setup my first system (mame) but dont know which route to go. I have the .149 mame on my arcade cab with all artwork/vids I have a downloaded .153 mame setup with all the artwork/vids And I have mame .167 roms and chd's downloaded. I wanted to use the newest .167 mame but the guide Im using uses the .153 setup where I could just follow step by step. If I use the .167 mame It will complicate things for the install and dont know how hard it would be to transfer all the artwork from my .149 mame setup in my cab to the .167 build. My biggest concern is I cant figure out the differences between the mame versions I have. My main goal in updating is to be able to use HLSL and have it look the best. Which version should I use for HLSL and would it be worth going the .167 route over the .153 which has a vid guide I could follow step by step making it the easier choice? thanks
Deezdrama
Because its been 2 years since I messed with any of this. I spent weeks making the drive years ago. Then just got around to building my cab this year. I remembet nothing about HS, HL..... Now its rocketlauncher. I figured I would compile a new hyperspin drive to relearn the software. So.... is my old mame .149 capable of using HLSL ? Would there be any reason to update from .149 to a newer version?
Deezdrama
Ok thanks. Im just going to settup RL with my mame .167 set. I just wonder if once I get my new drive setup.... if I can just transfer over all the video files from old drive to new drive
SubZero
if you ahve a 167 rom and chd set, you need the 167 mame version. and like jeremy stated, nothing has changed with adding mame or versions

SubZero
I use the commandline version x64, not the UIFX so the first one in your post. but for everyone it's own. dont know if you have a crt in your cab if not you need to check out the glsl shaders on mame. i have a scanline generator so no need for it but i hear that it looks great

Deezdrama
Should be same as your mame emulator. Hyperspin>emulators>mame> right click mame exe. >properties> click on details and will tell you your mame version....your roms would be same version

But i have roms few years back along with few i'd downloaded. How would i identify what rom sets are those? Cuz these roms didn't come with the Mame emulators. Deezdrama
I always thought mame roms were version dependant .... so mame .167 needs and can use .167 roms. Im no expert....someone else may chime in

It depends if MAME made changes to roms between versions. Some roms might get renamed, others might have their content replaced/removed. But you are right tho, use the mame version for the romset you have. You can always audit your roms with ClrMamePro (google & youtube are ur friends to find & make it work) A database can be found here

With RL mame system audit I originally had 7870 games found After downloading the .167 database that gets rid of non working, clones, majhong, and casino........ I now have 3098 games found. Was there that many clones etc to remove? That number sound right? Is there anyway to delete easily the roms/chds that are now not in the database im using? thanks again guys! OneBadVeggie
Is there anyway to delete easily the roms/chds that are now not in the database im using? thanks again guys! The way I usually do it is after my database is all set the way I want I use the Rom Folder Cleaner, which will clean out all the excess ROMs pefectly. The only problem is it only looks at your database to decide what to get rid of, so it'll clean out any CHDs or BIOS files you need to run certain games. Luckily, It doesn't delete them, it just sets them aside in a sperate file, so you can sort them or delete them yourself. So, what I end up doing (and if there's a simpler way, I'd love to hear it!) is use MAMEUI and go through using filters that tell me which CHD games work, and which BIOS files work, and just add them back into my ROM folder with everything else. Since there's not a TON of working CHD or BIOS files, it's not too time consuming. Then I delete the file that the ROM folder cleaner made, and I'm all done.
