diskmach Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Some systems have their roms in subfolders, like Playstation, that has separate "tracks". If I activate "Wheel filters - Roms only" in HyperHQ, the PS menu doesn´t start. Is there any solution to this, besides downloading 800 more roms, editing a XML with 2000+ games, or manually deactivating wheels for 800 games?? diskmach Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 PS roms were in folders from the start. It´s a bit messy, but some roms are not correctly named, just like "Track 01", but seem to be working when in a folder. It would take a lot of work renaming and moving stuff out of folders, too. I just wondered if there was an easier solution, not that I´m lazy or anything... 32assassin Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 if your games are in multiple tracks such as PS1 (even if its just 2 files such as bin/cue) you are better of keeping them in sub folders. Sony PSX roms/ Game1/ ______track1 ______track2 ______iso Game2/ ______track1 ______track2 ______iso with that been said, Hyperspin has a bug where it can't find games in sub folders. I asked BBB if this bug was fixed from 1.3 to 1.4 and he said yes, but I never tested it. this is the main reason why I only use and recommend the "wheels only" filter in HyperHQ. . of course the wheel only method only works if you 1. have a full set of wheel images. 2. you remove all the unwanted wheel images from the wheel images folder. since their is no full PSX wheel set, you either have to - remove the unwanted games from your XML - don't use sub-folders - use generic artwork for your missing wheels.
diskmach Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Jeremy: Sorry for the confusion. It´s as 32assassin describes it above. 32assassin: Thanks for your answer. The way you described it is exactly as I thought. To be clear, I´m on HS 1.4. I´m leaning towards your solution of using the "wheels only" option. That´s actually where I´m at right now, I just didn´t start deactivating wheels that don´t have roms, in hope for a simpler solution... I guess I´m going for the generic artwork as well. Spawk Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 This bothers me as I prefer to use the "roms only" option for all my systems. And there is 1 option still that hasn't been mentioned. You may not like it though, depending on how speedy your pc is. That is to keep the game zipped (or 7zipped!). Then not in folders at all. If extracting takes too long you can zip them in "store" format (zero compression). Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
diskmach Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Spawk: Thanks for your suggestion. It seemed interesting to me, so I decided to make a small experiment. My PC is, by the way, a few years old, but with a Core i7 930 CPU, so not too slow, I think. I zipped a PS game that was about 700 MB, in the "uncompressed" 7z-format. After that, loading it in Hyperspin took 33 s. The same game took 8 seconds to load wholly uncompressed. So, worth considering, but maybe not if you´re the impatient type... diskmach Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 For the time being I went with Spawk`s suggestion anyway. I figured I`m not starting up PS games that often anyway, so the wait isn`t that bad. And a bonus was that I saved more than 200 GB storage space, as I used normal 7z compression. Took 24 hours to batch process the files.... Dilated18 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 What I did was use a program called Miroirs to copy only the subfolders with no content in them to another folder. Then I zipped each folder into their own zip file. Zipping the empty folders made the process super quick. Then i set the rom path in HyperHQ to that folder with the new zip files and set the extension. Now you can use Hypertools to filter the list and create an XML. Hope this helps
diskmach Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Thanks, gbiz. A very interesting solution! Although i use Hypertools all the time, I haven´t looked much at the XML management solution, wasn´t really aware of it. The Miroirs program is a nice find too. diskmach Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 And the story goes on... I was using ePSXe, but got annoyed by various returning controller problems (XBOX 360) in that emulator, so decided to switch to Retroarch Mednafen PSX instead. After setting that up and having problems with incorrect cue-files, I had to fix a LOT of them, I realized that multi disc games needed to be unpacked to function in Retroarch (see module notes in RL). So now I ended up with single games 7zipped, multi disc games in folders, and finally I "cropped" the XML to the games I have. In the process of all this I opened/tested every single game... So every single PS game I have work, but I need a holiday now... Anyway, now Playstation has both "wheels only" and "roms only" unchecked... lsudolemite Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Not sure if a solution has been offered since, but I've stumbled on a simple fix that works in Windows. In each subfolder, create a shortcut to the cue file "gamename.cue". Then rename the shortcut to "gamename". Then move the shortcut to the parent, main rom folder. Now open HyperHQ and include the "lnk" file extension under the appropriate wheel. That's it! Now you should be able to keep files in rom subfolders and use the "rom only" filter for Hyperspin. I've found this same fix also works for Wii U game folders in dealing with wux and rpx files. Doesn't completely eliminate the clutter, but should cut it at least in half, especially games with multiple bin files.
diskmach Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 Sounds like a smart solution. Thanks for the post.
