Those games are so huge... I can't even imagine having more than a few games. I got one wiiU game now and that thing is 23.3GB

Why emulate WiiU stuff when you can just go to the store and buy it?

It's one thing when it's old games or roms that you can't buy or get anymore. It's another when it's currently being sold in stores.

I agree but I will say as with the original Wii... I had a Wii and it was so much better when I was able to make my backups and run them off a Harddrive with a modded wii and it's a lot better that I can emulate the Wii games on the PC.. so for WiiU users that actually own a WiiU I can see that as a PLUS... but I have to be real and say for the most part NOBODY with a WiiU is going to suffer with painful emulation when they have a REAL WIIU... so we all know that the people pushing hard for wiiU right now are straight up PIRATES.

I'm oldschool as far as the rules... when these companies basically said screw the people and stopped supporting these older systems and games... the scene said screw them and we saved a lot of the systems and games from being forgotten... but when you have a system like WiiU... to me it makes no sense when you can just buy a WiiU and enjoy it.... instead of going crazy trying to worry about when something will be emulated.

At some point it will make sense for WiiU to be emulated and going by Nintendo's track record that won't be too long and by that time the system should be FULLY emulated once the technology gets pushed forward and we all have SUPER MEAN PC's

A very thin line between THE REAL SCENE!!!! and LEECHERS IN THE SCENE!!! one could argue none of us own all the ARCADE machines we emulate but we could also argue those ARCADE MACHINES are no longer supported by the manufacturers.

side note... it's funny how in recent years the companies actually started to take from the SCENE and came out with their own EMULATORS to play older games lol... even the companies that have started to come out with these NEW retro consoles like Atari 2600 and Intellivision (that basically have multiple games builtin the console) they definitely have to thank the underground gaming-emulation scene for that because nobody else cared about vintage gaming.

If nothing else... all this buzz coming from the Emulation scene about wiiU is actually making me want to buy a WIiU lol

I´m actually more fascinated by the fact that this can be achieved already, technically speaking, more than I´m really about to start making wheels...

Metalzoic: I think there is rather a thin line here, you can easily buy second-hand games for ps2 if you want, or even buy a few new games for Wii, yet a lot of Hyperspinners

already have these systems in HS. And it will probably be a couple of years, and possibly a couple of cpu generations, before the real 3d WiiU games will work well in Windows. Maybe they´ve stopped selling

WiiU games in stores by then...

Rastan: When it comes to size, there is already a compression method for WiiU games. See this link:

Yeah, but it´s all a process, isn´t it? If no people are involved now in the WiiU hacking and emulation scenes, then you´re not going to benefit from it, like you benefitted from having your Wii system as you mentioned here. I also modded my Wii like a year ago, and it was certainly a step up in what you could do with the system.

I believe there should always be development going on with emulation so I'm all for WiiU emulation in these early stages and I realize a lot of beta-testing is actually done by people in the scene and not dev's because they're too busy coding so we end up finding most of the BUGS and make the suggestions that are implemented in future builds but emulation is like wild-fire once it's out there it's out there. I will say the wiiU games are so damn big that nobody is really gonna have more than a few games anyways so I doubt wiiU emulation is gonna be replacing the actual wiiU...for anyone serious about WiiU gaming.

I bet most of that space is dummy files of padding, I can't see New Super Mario Bros U being 23GB. Mario Galaxy 2 is only 1.5GB with the padding striped out.

full blown emulation on any system that is still being released commercially probably hurts the scene more because anything that can hurt future development of GAMES for these systems will hurt the scene in the long run. I always think back to COMMODORE 64 days.... I wonder how a lot of those software developers even managed to continue releasing games because everything on C64 was cracked and on some 0-1 DAY BBS (not to mention in the states we got the imports from overseas so when the US versions came out the games were OLD already..)

Gigapig: Yes, there are some examples from the developer of Cemu in the link I provided above.

Examples (uncompressed size is always 23.3GB):

Super Mario World 3D -> 2.61GB (20.69GB saved)
DKC Tropical Freeze -> 11.7GB (11.6GB saved)
Zelda WW HD -> 2.70GB (20.7GB saved)
Darksiders 2 -> 9.43GB (13.87GB saved)
Mario Party 10 -> 4.01GB (19.29GB saved)

So for some games size would be similar to PS2 or Wii, for example.

Yeah, I just hit the usual suspects to check... it's been a while since I even bothered looking into anything wii related because I don't even use my soft-modded wii anymore but I remember wiiU was hard to come by now I'm seeing wiiU stuff is easily available and the file sizes aren't mega huge. From what I can see the flood gates are wide open (they were open for a while but as I said it wasn't that easy to get the wiiU stuff) Definitely mixed feelings on this one but I doubt WiiU emulation is anywhere near perfect for every game so I don't see this hurting the wiiU hardware.

I would have bought the WiiU already, as it is the only major modern console I don´t own, but I´m living in Japan for a while,

WiiU is region-locked, and my reading skills in Japanese are close to zero...

I have a collection of physical games numbering close to 3000. I can also tell you the exact moment I became a physical collector, 1996 after discovering the NESticle emulator for DOS. Emulation created a hunger in me for physical media. Additionally, I bought a Wii (close to its release date) and have been involved with the soft modding scene since Pandora's Tower was released in the UK... I now own 200+ Wii games (including UK imports) and they are the only games I have put on my 2Tb harddrive (still hooked up to the Wii). However, I do think I'm in the minority, and I really hope that WiiU emulation doesn't speed up too much, because it will definitely hurt a system that is hurting for popularity. Piracy arguably killed the dreamcast (another system I collect for and got into the home brew scene), and I opened it won't do the same to the WiiU... Although, once the NX comes out, I'm sure Nintendo will stop supporting the WiiU.

Where's my Original Xbox emulator!

Still very much experimental though. Just like Cemu.

Im moving too much to be able to keep a lot of physical games. So, I think I was an early adopter when it comes to getting rid of LPs, CDs, DVDs, VHS, cassette tapes and whatnot...No wonder I got into emulators...

WiiU has been for all intent and purposes dead since the day of its release lol

Not in our house it's not.

How would people feel about life without Nintendo?

It makes some fantastic hardware decisions some questionable hardware decisions, it churns out the same games every generation but they are still great games.

I am inclined to agree with Giga here.  They do make prob the best quality of games in terms of the actual gameplay.  But in terms of Hardware... terrible!  Problem is that they are also stingy with their games.  Pushing games back knowing that they will be on the next gen and not the WiiU now is bad news.  They have some AMAZING games on the WiiU... but they also have some AMAZING games that was to be released on it and now... well... I bet the bottom dolla they end up on the NX as launch titles.

Splatoon, Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Maker, and Mario Kart 8 to name a few more than keep it alive in our house, however, to be fair, we never skip a Nintendo console... ever!

nintendo has been confused since n64.. if the wii was a HD console instead of a gamecube jazzed up... wiiU never would have come out so i can see how some can see wiiU as D.O.A.

Yes indeed it has some cool games. But the numbers don't lie, they cater to a market that is nowhere near the size of the PS/Xbox crowd. While this is great as it brings you a different onslaught of game types, it doesn't do well for Nintendos pocket. They will go the way of Sega unfortunately if this keeps up.
