rastan Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Those pre built systems are def not plug n play Take it easy and tackle it one emulator at a time. Go slow and it doesn't matter what you do, you HAVE to take time to understand the program do you can tweak/troubleshoot. only thing good about them is all the media is there (or should be) I kinda feel sorry for the people that were fooled because some of these people probably wouldn't have paid for them if they knew the trouble that was waiting for them.
SkyHighGam3r Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Quite honestly, the very BEST way to set this thing up in a realistic manner...1.) Create a list of games you want, and yeah that could long as **** depending on what you want. (Personally, I find the concept of having "every game ever" to be ridiculous and over-the-top. As if every game ever was even remotely good enough.) I filled a small notebook with my list.2.) Download Hyperspin from the actual website3.) Download rocketlauncher4.) Set the two up together (People here can help with that)6.) One by one, get the rom/iso, and the corresponding box/video (and whatever extra art you want) from here, the FTP, or emumovies.7.) Add each game to it's systems XML.8.) SETUP XPADDER... You can setup ONE profile for an xbox controller, and use it with EVERY system ( I don't understand why everyone doesn't do it this way )9.) Download, Install, & Setup RetroArch (and any extra emulators)10.) Play.I wish to GOD someone would have given me the above list when I started this project 2 years ago. I'm like 5% away from being 100% done after 2 YEARS of trying to wade through the old info, nonsense advice, and bad tutorials. (Special thanks to Simply Austin for his very well done tutorials, even if some are a little dated )
SkyHighGam3r Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 On the bright side they have all the media.. hopefully the videos are HQ at least... if not there is a torrent floating of that old Hyperspin Project... hopefully that isn't what these people are selling.. That stupid hyperspin project torrent was my introduction to this program lol. GOD that thing was a disaster. Other than some videos, I ended up having to replace almost all the art, and update almost every bit and byte of that thing lol. Seriously is easier to start from scratch. Especially if you are like me, and have to systematically remove all those STUPID country codes and version numbers, and fix idiotic things like. The Legend of Zelda not being listed as Legend of Zelda, The
wesfranks Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 You purchased from a fraudulent company that is selling pre-configured HYPERSPIN setups (what they are actually selling you is a HARD DRIVE and ripping you off because the HARD DRIVE probably isn't even worth whatever you paid for it. HYPERSPIN is a FREE PROGRAM! *MOST IF NOT ALL THE EMULATORS* you probably have installed are FREE PROGRAMS!!! the VIDEOS *in my opinion are PUBLIC DOMAIN!!!* the ROMS shouldn't be PAID FOR PERIOD! other than from a company that actually is licensing the games so with that said I have no respect for anybody selling ROMS) It's very disrespectful to come to the HYPERSPIN forums and expect people to be your customer service.. the folks here on these forums are dedicated users that have built there systems from scratch and have gone thru trial & error.. sharing information with others in the community.. I think it's hilarious that these people assume that they can come to these forms and get CUSTOMER SERVICE when there is no area on the HYPERSPIN site to actually BUY A HYPERSPIN DRIVE! I say go back to the website that you purchased your DRIVE from and complain to them. Anyone buying these drives that thinks they are OFFICIALLY endorsed by HYPERSPIN is an idiot! Ha Ha Rastan. With you and everyone capitalizing words around here, every post sounds like Captain Kirk/William Shatner in my head. It keeps happening. Make it stop. Khhhhhhhaaaaaaannnn!!!!!!!!!!
Tribe Fan Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Luckily HyperSpin was a relatively fledgling frontend and the predators weren't quite on the prowl yet when I first got started (plus I was poor as dirt Otherwise I probably would've fallen into the preconfigured drive trap too. Like everyone has said, though, there might still be lots of valuable resources on that drive. While I, too, don't condone the sale of ROMs, at least you shouldn't have to go through the torture of having to download a bunch of complete sets. There's lots of fantastic resources out there to help you get started. Get MAME set up rock solid and it should all be downhill from there. Also, RetroArch has really simplified the set up for most of the classic consoles. If you become a platinum member, you can even download gigapig's full HyperSpin setup. It's light years ahead of what is sold on any preconfigured drive. Good luck.

That's true but I strongly advise people struggling through the trauma of being raked over the coals by these drive salesman swindlers to use that stuff, especially roms, as a last resort. There's usually a lot of hidden issues and bugs that'll present themselves over time.

There's usually a lot of hidden issues and bugs that'll present themselves over time. Probably good advice. The MAME set, for example, is probably hopelessly out of date.

NO ONE should ever have to be subjected to those ATROCIOUS Collections of unsorted, misnamed, piles of unorganized GARBAGE that is a "Full Romset" They are the single worst part about ALL of emulation. It is not "43329-(N64)THE.LEGEND.OF.ZELDA.OCARINA.OF.TIME(USA)(1.2)(!).V64. It is: "Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of time.v64" THEN you get to sort through thousands of duplicates, because lets put every region, and version in there while we are at it. Plus you get the joy of having to go through one by one to delete all the games that are absolute garbage. "Where's Waldo the Video Game? Are you serious?? WHY!?!?" They are HORRIBLE and I HATE THEM and WHOEVER made them. Thank GOD for direct download sites. As for condoning the sale of roms... I personally condone it whole-heartedly... on ONE condition. It's a system that isn't current anymore. I think it would be screwed up to take money from say... Rockstar Games by selling copies of GTA V, however you are not taking a dime from Capcom by selling copies of the original Mega Man. Kind of like Marijuana... just because it's illegal, doesn't make it wrong.

It keeps happening. Make it stop. Khhhhhhhaaaaaaannnn!!!!!!!!!! bad habit from the C64 bbs days (0 DAY WAREZ) I don't even realize I do it but will try to be more alert about it lol. took me years to stop using a damn "Z" after everything like gamerz, warez, l8rz.

Mame is the only thing I can enjoy scrolling thru a full set because it's fun just seeing all the classic and vintage arcades from years back.

THK Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I hope these people aren't using their credit cards to buy these drives.. Doesn't this validate as being ripped off as in get back your money? seems to work that way over here.... It just seems shady to sell roms that are available for free.. especially if the system isn't even supported anymore.. let the roms be free!! Metalzoic Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Ha! I feel bad for the original dude that made the topic. Asked an innocent question and unknowingly had a bunch of us start ranting like mad men! Sorry original dude... the advice we all gave was solid though and we meant well (well... maybe not Rastan. He's more of a "chop first" type of barbarian)

hopeless1987 Posted February 18, 2016 Author Posted February 18, 2016 woah this forum is active hahahahTHCADGF gave me a great amount of time today , i'm a fast leaner and i am glad i got to to it with him , if something happens im still learning but i understand the way it works at least lolMAME was 149 ... i am actually looking for more recent mame games but i dont want to download it from a bad source so ill do some research lolHad to redo the whole thing... kinda sucks lol but not all that bad , ill only add the console/games i like and build my own hyperspin... i really dont care about some consoles and roms on there... really obscure stuff lolthanks for the love and support guys glad i joined this place ! I will go through all your messages tomorrow
Metalzoic Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Wow man quick work. Basically all these messages are telling you that you need to redo it all, and here you pop back up and have already begun re-doing it all. Good job! Mine came with 149 too. You need to ditch that and download a new up-to-date set (but keep the AAE games just in case. That emu uses MAME 149 Roms). MAME 171 comes out next Wednesday and you'd be able to download it from PD right away (what they call a "free" download).

Metalzoic Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 keeping up with mame is a pain in the ass with the updates lol.. Not s bad once you have the initial PD approved Torrent Zipped version. After that it's pretty painless to update since you only need to download changes.

SkyHighGam3r Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 It just seems shady to sell roms that are available for free.. especially if the system isn't even supported anymore.. let the roms be free!! I hear you, it sounds deceptive. My thinking is, for example, I have friends who have watched me put together my hyperspin build over the last 2 years who had never even heard of an emulator/rom and have (without my prompting) offered me pretty sums of cash to give them a copy once I am done. I've told them it's all available for free online but they are like "Screw that, I don't even know half of what you are talking about when it comes to this thing, I just know I want one too. I'll pay you for the time it took you to get it going, just so I don't have to deal with it."
SkyHighGam3r Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Not to mention ILLEGAL I understand that, I'm just speaking more conceptually. As I said, something being illegal doesn't have any bearing on whether it's right or wrong. That's a separate debate. The concept I brought up regarding it is how the reasons for it being illegal, in my opinion, don't seem to have any bearing on 30 year old products that are no longer available to purchase. As result on a PERSONAL note, I don't hold issue with people selling roms. Never done it, not saying anyone SHOULD do it, nor do I condone ripping people off in the fashion these pre-configured drives people are doing. My issue with them is selling shoddy products with pisspoor customer service and atrocious romsets. If they sold it in a clean, concise, easy to use/update way with even a half-decent setup for the roms... I'd have no personal quarrell with it what-so-ever.
