sparton Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Hi All, hopefully I have posted in the right place. I have an issue with the emulator for SegaCD, Genesis etc - Fusion. I have this setup in Hyperspin no problems, using the right Fusion version and correct Module. Games load up perfectly, however when I close a game (ESC back to HS), I get 1 or 2 seconds of 'sound crash' - that being whatever sound was playing in the game/rom when I hit exit will hang and loop itself for a second or so. A small thing, but it takes away from the clean finish of Hyperspin. I wonder if anyone else has this issue and if there is any solution, other than to steer clear of Fusion? Thanks!
djvj Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Yea I get it too but so far have been unable to find a way to stop it. It's how the emu handles closing itself. sparton Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 Thanks. Just out of interest, do you use on-board sound or do you have a sound card (Xonar, Creative)?

sparton Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 hhm. I am going to uninstall my soundcard today, see if it makes any difference.
djvj Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Ok let me know as I would love to know why this happens. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 4. I have this issue as well. For me, I've found it's dependent on what resolution you use. If I set my full screen res to 1920x1080, I get a solid 3-4 second sound crash when I exit the emulator. If I lower the resolution I only get a half-1 sec sound crash. I have tried changing the exit key to something other than Esc in HLHQ, but I still get the sound problem. Please post if you find a solution to this! I'm using an NVidia card gtx650.
DamnedRegistrations Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I too have this issue but it's only for about a half second since I have HS on an SSD. So that helps a lot. I use my desktop res of 1920x1080 at correct aspect ratio with 32-bit forced in fusion.ini. It must have something to do with how audio works in Fusion. If you notice, there's a small pop/click sound when a rom loads up or audio starts too. At least with 32x games. I've had this with and without a sound card, so that isn't the problem. Probably can't be fixed unless there's some magical AHK code that fades out audio when closing. I do wish that could done though. Having audio fades along with the built-in video fades of HL would be awesome, especially for emulators like Mednafen. Wonder if it'll ever be possible. Anyway, you're better off using RetroArch with Genesis Plus core for Sega CD, Master System and Genesis. Much better than Fusion. Better accuracy, better compatibility, more shortcuts, updated occassionally and you'll get rewind even with Sega CD games. With Fusion, you can't even map fast forward without using a keymapper/xpadder profile.
Frosty Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Thanks for the info. Being new to RetroArch, how steep is the learning curve to get it up and running? I've about given up on fusion. Not only does the sound mess up when HL alt+f4 exits, my frame rate seems capped at 30 fps in full screen making games seem choppy. I'm thinking these issues are related to fusion not playing nice with windows 8.1...
plude220 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Has any tryed Gens with RL? Would it be a better alt for sega systems than fusion? Im also using fusion atm.
DamnedRegistrations Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Thanks for the info. Being new to RetroArch, how steep is the learning curve to get it up and running? RetroArch isn't complicated, it's nothing like MESS or anything. The latest megapacks include everything you'll need basically and even supports xinput for controllers. Just choose a core from the main menu (i.e. Genesis Plus GX for Sega systems, BSNES for Super Nintendo, etc.) then change whatever settings you like and load up a game. Not much else to it. Has any tryed Gens with RL? Would it be a better alt for sega systems than fusion? Im also using fusion atm. I'd avoid Gens and even Gens32 Surreal, they feel pretty clunky and outdated nowadays. Actually worse than Fusion as far as accuracy goes. Try what I recommended above -- RetroArch with Genesis Plus GX.

Thanks for the info about Retroarch. I have it running, but was needing help with a few quick setup options. How do you max the native resolution to 1080? I can fit it to 16x9, but it's still blurry.. I looked in the video options but couldn't find a solid choice. Also, do you know of a way to hide the controller indicator popup when games start? Its in yellow font and annoying. thanks for any helpEDIT** found out where it was... It was under shaders. Changed it "nearest" filter. :-). Now to find a way to remove the controller pop up... EDIT2** After tinkering around a bit with the cfg file, I found the option to adjust the "video font size". Turned this to zero and the yellow input text doesn't pop up anymore. Not sure if this was the correct way to fix it, but it worked.
twistedsymphony Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I realize I'm bumping an old thread but did anyone ever resolve the sound crashing issue when quitting Fusion? I actually switched FROM RetroArch TO Fusion because RetroArch was having compatibility issues with my setup. fusion works great except for this one problem. I wonder if there is any way to use ahk to mute or maybe pause emulation before exiting... I'm a total AHK noob so I don't even know where to start with trying that myself.
jkonami Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Just my two cents on how I solved this issue (the audio hang) for anyone searching for a solution in the future: The key is to close the rom first before exiting the emulator, which is by default keyed to shift-tab. I left the exit key in Hyperlaunch as is (esc), and I programmed Pinnacle Profiler to send shift-tab first, then esc as my exit button sequence. Works great, you can even disable the static/snow in fusion.ini (set StaticDisabled=1) and it looks even more seamless.

I wonder if it makes sense to modify the fusion.ahk to do this by default.
