craiganater
Hi there. I've been dreaming of building my own hyperspin cabinet, and after setting up hyperspin, I have no idea what to do next. I've been using a usb fight stick while it is on my pc but I'll be using the I-Pac for the build. Should my next thing after setting up hyperspin be to buy all my buttons, coin mech abd I-Pac to set up controls? The more I do, the more I feel swamped, I'm doing this alone for the first time and have no idea what I am doing essentially. So really, what I am asking is, I have hyperspin wheels and games set up, what do I do next? Sent from my HTC_PN071 using Tapatalk
tkropp17
I would decide what kind of cab build you're doing. Refurbishing and old one, starting from scratch, modifying an old one... Then you'll know what type of control panel to build then can begin buying hardware for it. Maybe you have better carpentry skills than I do, but check out my build in my signature (Mortal Kombat). Nothing fancy, but it's what works for me.
MontyQ
ya decide if you want to make it new or but a used fixer upper...either way it's all part of the fun as a hobby imo. I have a few cabs and never built one then one day went to jakobud site grabbed a blueprint and just went at it, in the long run it looks great cost me less then fixing one up and was tons of fun as a project. Check it out if you like http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?27667-Finally-starting-my-Popeye-machine&highlight=popeye once your done your building then put your monitor/PC in and just get buttons ect wire to ipac plug and play since your done the hyperspin part already.Of course do the art ect for the control panel before drilling it out that way you know your layout ect. craiganater
I'm building a new one, so I've been looking into styles to build, but no my carpentry skills are little to non existent, but I have friends who like the idea who have offered to help build. That blueprint will help heaps, I'm decided either a full sized one or a half one, made to fit on top of a bar fridge I have. So you guys are saying, build the cabinet, then build the arcade inside it? I have an idea for the paint, I want to have it all painted and designed in chalk, then to seal that. miamisurf
Ooh. Deadly good list. I am on my 3rd cab build and restored a Pinni on and off. Writing a list of basic components and using plans like cab build doc or blueprint / will keep you on track and help with Goals. Once you have the build basics you can always tailor or upgrade. To really pimp your cab. Get use to having spare parts nothing worse than needing a tool or screw at 1:30am. Some of the BYOAC plans have a tool and component list. Hint: buy from forum community members or recommended parts bulk dealers, batch your items together for sweet deals. Hint2: make it fun Play games along the Way. & safety 1st. majorspawn
work out all of the cost in making the cabinet, with my first cab that i made the mdf alone was a few hundered dollars. Sometimes it pays off to invest a bit extra and get a kit instead. And yeah the kits are IKEA type and very easy to put together.
craiganater
I got a carpenter friend with the wood for me for free, it's good to have friends willing to help a friend in need. I'll compare the cost though, it may be worth just for it to look prettier. first up, I just need to know what plans I'm going to use. That is insane the cost of mdf in your country then ouch.....here its $20-$25 a 4x8 sheet. I did my whole build for about $500 including all the parts and the shipping cost of the parts/art ect and turned out awesome http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?27667-Finally-starting-my-Popeye-machine&highlight=popeye
pofo14
I recently finished my first cabinet. I configured the PC first as it was during winter and was the easiest for me to do. Then built the cabinet, then the CP, tested and assembled. I would probably have done the CP before the cabinet personally. You can then work out all the configuration kinks, so when the cabinet is done you can just enjoy it and play. craiganater
I see a lot of different orders, but all I can work out, is to do what ever order I can. Do what ever I can afford. For now that may even just be setting it up on my pc, and having to wait till I have money to move on. I know what order I would LIKE, but it depends on not having money at the moment and what I can do Sent from my HTC_PN071 using Tapatalk
Polemicist
Can I make a suggestion as a fellow Aussie. If you have a pretty sweet LED TV in your lounge room with HDMI ports in it how about starting simple. That is basically a PC built into a control panel. Not overly expensive and a great starting point. Easy to do even if you don't have great carpentry skills. Also if you want to use the KISS method I'd recommend iPac and the fun things over at Ultimarc.com and I personally am very fond of the UltraStik 360's and the Aimtrak's. Oh and no I didn't build that and yes I found the pictures here and yes I do have more pictures as I want to make something similar. Enjoy. pofo14
Agreed. Doing the CP first gives you options. You can stop there, or keep going and install it in a cabinet. Obviously you could enjoy the CP for a while before building the cab. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
craiganater
Thanks Polenicist, that's one in the ideas I have down in my list, I'll be using ultimarc, its come so recommended, I can't not go there. I like this idea, it means I can build the CP, plug it into my pc while I find money, then I can move it up to buy the pc parts for it, then the cabinet. If I had the money for it all still, it would be a breeze, but in tight budget, this will be fun ahaha. Thanks guys.
