Nice!

That seems pretty straight forward.

Does that then output the .ini file?

simply copy&paste the output in your ledwiz.ini file

cheers

Any problem using incandescents in the cab buttons and hooking them to the LEDWIZ? Seems it natively handles +5v from the USB and you can add other voltages too (solenoids, etc). I plan to connect the 6 cab buttons to get +5v and another bank for the solenoids (24v).

imo pc powered usb port provides total 500mA. I think pinball incandescents need about 2watts, so you can drive 1-2 incandescents at a time.

Thanks. Maybe I should put LEDS in the cab buttons then since they don't require as much power, or I can wire up just the START and EXTRA BALL in the LEDWIZ since these are the ones that are mostly active from the rom. I don't have BALL SHOOTER as a lamp.

Chris,

You only have 2 flipper buttons? (looking at your listing).

Also, I see that you have the LEDs for the flippers marked as +12v. Are they 12v LEDs or do you just step the voltage down with resistors?

Posted

I have 4 flipper buttons. I use the same color for all 4 buttons, so you need only 1 rgb output (3 ledwiz ports).

this is my button led, plug n play 12v

Nice work there shil.

And chris thanks for your overview !!!

I have a button the only switches on the cabinet, can i light that manually through the software? or should i just wire it permantly to 5v without the ledwiz? i could do it with a molex connector

Posted

you can light it manually via ledwiz. you can specify manually ON/OFF/BLINK or ROM controlled. if you have some free ports on your ledwiz - go for it

Thanks. Mine are +5v, so I think I will wire up the first 2 banks to +5v. that will allow me to have all the solenoids wired the same way and I will just re-wire the other buttons to RGB.

With regards to the flipper buttons, I was hoping to have only the flippers that are active light up, but I am guessing that is not possible?

you should do some "load balancing" across the 4 ledwiz driver chips... e.g. all solenoids or all flasher on the same bank is not recommended.

I am going to map it exactly the same as yours except for the regular button LEDs. i will wire some of those as regular lights, some as RGB. For example, I want the start & extra ball to be RGB. The rest can be regular LEDs. so mine will be almost the same as yours. :)

Just replaced the 2 car solenoids for the fllippers with real pinball coils. Holy crap are they ever loud! :D

Both my kids told me that the car ones are better. "Too loud". Mind you this was without the playfield and backglass. :)

Bringing this picture back...

In this picture you had:

- 2 solenoids for flippers

- 3 solenoids for bumpers at the top of the playfield

- 2 solenoids for slingshot

- 1 solenoid for replay

Am I correct in thinking that you added one more to the top? (right, left, front, back?)

what sort of events do the slingshot ones fire for (give me an example of a table?).

I am thinking of doing this:

- 1 replay

- 2 flipper

- 2 bumpers (the ones that are normally above the flippers. thinking of mounting them in the approx location of where they would be rather than against the side)

- 3-4 at the top of the PF (right, left, center back, center front).

Just need to understand the slingback events.

Thanks Chris,

Now I get it.

For the slingshots, I was going to mount my coils under the playfield in about the location that they would exist on a normal pinball, rather than on the side of the cabinet.

The coils look like this:

a4.jpg?psid=1

Notice that they dont actually bang agains the side, like a replay coil does. Instead, they bang against a metal frame. If you look closely at the picture, you will see that there is a piece of metal on the right and just to the left of it is a plastic peice. I can swap them around so that it makes less sound.

Here is another view:

a8.jpg?psid=1

I can tell you that mounting them on the side of the cabinet for the flippers make a very, very loud sound. similar to a real pinball (which is what I am going for after all. :) ).

Here is how I was thinking of mounting the slingshots:

a6.jpg?psid=1

More pictures as it gets mounted inside the cab. Not sure on the location yet...

Buuufff!!! For me it's better to use relays instead coils for the flippers, original pinball flippers uses a system por knock the flippers diferent than you can do with ledwiz, If you use the flipper coils on ledwiz I have the posibility to burn it.

It's only an advice

Regars!

I am not driving the coils directly from the LED-Wiz. I will drive either a relay or a switching circuit which will trigger the coil.

How did the switching circuit worked out ? Witch schematic did you use in the end ?

No luck with the circuit yet (put it aside as I need sleep before I can tackle it again... :) ). In the meantime, I built a circuit with the relays and tested it out. Works great!

I will post a video later today.

erwin posted a triac switch card here. I ordered one for testing. Is it possible to switch DC-loads with triacs either (manual says only AC-output)?

cheers

Is that the Velleman kit?
