rfancella Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Hello all, I have been trying to help some users out there with their setup. Many people do not know what RDP or Remote Desktop is. So I hope to enlighten here. For the most part, people that off help here, can be trusted. If the user has fairly high post count. If you are concerned, just remember, you can un-install the software. For many, this is "old-hat". So we will just dive right in. TeamViewer is a free for personal, non-commercial use. It allows you to launch the program and give the other person an ID code and password. They can then log into your computer and take shared control of it. The process is simple (as shown below) and it works no matter what operating system you or the other person has. So, if someone offers to TeamView into your computer, there are a couple things to keep in mind. 1). Please be courteous. They are taking their time to help you out. 2). A good start is to have a notepad document or Word doc open to chat back and forth in. 3). When chatting, hit Enter twice when your done. That way the other person knows they can type and your not typing over each other. To install TeamViewer on your PC (this example uses Windows) navigate to: http://www.teamviewer.com Click the Download link as shown below: If asked to save or run the file, just run it. If you don't have that option, save it and run it once it's downloaded. Once it starts it's install, be sure and select the following: When it's finished, you will get the following screen: Give the other person Your ID and Password (random every time you use it). They will enter it on their end and it will connect and you will both have control. You do not need to click anything. As always, input... more input... CobraOPC Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I am still amazed more of the people doesn't use teamviever, it works great , i have been using it for years , and most of all it bypasses a lot of firewalls and stupid routines and bugs in windows and kaspersky for example . My working pc is protected like a polar bear , nothing can get to it form outside, even on static public IP, BUT this works like a charm , have access to all of my options even when i am abroad , like working on my desktop , all the network , printers etc. Highly recommended and its free totally for personal use.
Jcproam Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Another great thing about team viewer is using it to remote into your arcade set up and working from the comfort of your regular pc. Makes the thousands of little tweaks and the ever ongoing updating process easier.
alcoatjez Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Just a quick thank you, Ron. You keep amazing me with your excellent guides! Verstuurd vanaf mijn GT-I9300 met Tapatalk
vindic8r Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 This is awesome. Ever since I shelled my machine to HS for a short time (I've since undone that), I haven't been able to connect to my arcade machine using RDP. Infuriating. I'll start a separate thread on that. Separately, I have a TeamViewer question. Is there a way to send the video for TeamViewer only to the controlling machine? I ask because my arcade machine has an actual arcade monitor and can only go up to 800x600 max, which is still tragically small for the HLHQ UI. And ideally, I'd like to set the resolution of my TeamViewer session much higher than that. That's what I'd do with RDP, and it worked great. Ah, if only RDP still worked! Agrajag Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I was thinking about how to display more of the HLHQ window on a low res monitor and was reminded of using a scrolling virtual desktop on my Atari ST many years ago. It turns out this is possible in Windows as well, as per this article: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/i-love-free-desktop-extender.htm I've not tried any of the suggested tools (I'm not at my PC at the moment), but one of them may well be the answer. Agrajag Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Ah, I don't actually have an arcade monitor - I was just thinking this might help people who do! I'll be back at my PC soon so will give it a try anyway and report back. HyperSpin behaving oddly? Agrajag Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Well the first one I tried (GiMeSpace) was a dead loss. I set my screen resolution to 800x600 and could scroll about a much larger area and move / open windows all over the place, but the size of each window was limited to the screen resolution. I.e. I couldn't make HLHQ wide enough to have all the icons at the top of the screen in a single row then scroll left and right to see it all. I feel sure there must be a way to do it but I've not got time to investigate the other options right now. I'll come back to this in the next few days if nobody beats me to it. vindic8r Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Thanks for trying, Agrajag! I'll do some digging too. Hadn't thought about this idea as a solution before. MOTUMAME: The Masters of the Universe Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator!
Agrajag Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I started a new thread for this idea, as it's not strictly speaking anything to do with TeamViewer: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?35179-Virtual-scrolling-desktop HyperSpin behaving oddly? georgecampbell Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 In addition to hosted solutions from Teamviewer/LogMeIn, you may want to consider a RHUB remote support server.
