AppleWin keymapper support

Hai Faahrev and all the others, nice to see a guy from the same country;)

Brolly advice me to not use xpadder because i have a cabinet with 2 joys and buttons, running on a ipac.

i must manual do the remap per emu, but its fun to learn, and not good for the bad habbits like coffee and cookies;)

so i wonder how you did the remapping the applewin emu, because i think its hardcoded?

I use both, but I use XPadder for systems that use a POV or several sticks only. Normally I use JoyToKey (licensed).

For as far as I know all games on the AppleII have hardcodes keys. Sometimes a game let you define other keys so you can use an existing JTK cfg to 'press' the keys.

Example:

Game X uses AWSD for movement and K to fire.

Under HLHQ, configure the game for JTK with these settings. Save cfg and 'reload' the default Hyperspin cfg.

(see http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?30655-Can-t-get-JoytoKey-to-work-at-all for an explanation)

Now, when choosing AppleII and game X, through HL JTK is started with the game config loaded.

There SHOULD be no difference between pressing keybaord keys or a JTK joystick action but sometimes there is. HyperLaunch itself is the best example where the cursor keys don't work.

Tip: avoid using keys like !@#$%^&*()_+{} etc.

He uses an ipac so xpadder or joytokey will be useless to him.

What you need to use is the AHK keymapper, which I don't know if it works or not with AppleWin as I haven't tested it. But if xpadder and joytokey work then it should also work fine.

Sorry, don't know much about iOS stuff.

But if you were willing to donate me an iPac I would love to figure it out for you !!

I Think the autocorrect did a apple to iOs ;)

So AHK keymapper is maybe the solution. I am gonna try some.

@Faahrev, i have an Ipac spare, but i think you don't need it, because it just simply put a keyboard string to the pc(from a wire) it encodes it(correct me if i am wrong)

So that's what you get going cynical...

Seriously, love the equipment. Have an iTV myself (did it again..) for watching MLB. Don't like Apple policies though.

@Gevurver. Didn't get that last sentence. PM me in Dutch what you meant with that if you like.

eheh had a good laugh with this :)

iPac = keyboard encoder, so it's basically the same as using a keyboard for playing the games this is what he meant. Testing with an iPac or an actual keyboard would basically be the same.

AHK Remapping is your solution Gerurver, the module is already sending keypresses to the emulator so it should work fine.

So basically I can just select my Apple II system in HLHQ goto the Keymapper tab then AutoHotKey pull down choose System or Game and go ahead and remap for basic system and then for each specific game. Could be a lot of work for every Apple game and I assume the naming conventions are based on the game names as seen in the Database from the front end game list so therefore waiting for the official DB would be best?

Hmmm. Could be interesting. I have the iPac on my list and this system is one of my old school favs so I guess I know what I'll be doing.

Does anyone know where a list of default keys are for Apple games? Or are they all gonna be different?

Guys, guys,

I KNOW what an iPac is. Regretfully my budget was tight so I had to do things with a Xin-Mo (which works nice BTW) with my own cabinet.

But I thought it was funny to relate it to Apple equipment because of the "i" in front of the title..

There are a LOT of systems which have lots of games with different layouts. Probably all PC or Home Computer systems have this problem.

MSX, Sharp, Sinclair, Apple to name a few. Some games have hardcoded keystrokes, some use character based. It's down to trial and error and lots of work.

For me the Xin-Mo works for AppleWin as a joystick. No keymapping necessary.

I think some Apple II games support joysticks so for those there should be no reason to remap on a per game basis. Only for those games that don't support joysticks you'll need to remap if you want to use them with your joystick/cp, I think the keys will vary from game to game. Not sure about Apple II, but for Spectrum the most common keys were QAOP+Space.

But when you start adding PC systems to your build you just have to realize that many games are intended to be played with a keyboard so you might as well have one around.
