Best controller for NES / SNES

So I have tried to find a controller that perfectly plays as the NES and SNES controllers did for my older systems.  I recently purchased 2 8bitdo NES30 controllers after seeing reviews.  I can say the d pad does not work very well.  It is far too sensitive to diagonals. When trying to push up or down you have to be perfectly accurate in your thumb positioning or it will register diagonal.  Very disappointed.

Controllers Tested:

Controller / Grade / Reason

Retrolink NES / F / D pad was overly sensitive, felt cheap and buttons did not work properly

8Bitdo Nes30 / C- / D pad was not quite there, needed to be perfect with D pad otherwise it would register diagonal.

iBuffalo Classic / A / D pad was very responsive and buttons, while different took little time to get used to.

Do they have to be wireless? I use regular NES and SNES controllers with the retrochip to convert to USB. I also have DS3 wireless controllers that work great for nes/snes.

Yeah, you can't beat the originals. A very close second, though, is the Wii classic controller connected to a wiimote and the dolphinbar. The best solution for classic console games imo.

I got the mayflash snes adapter and plugged original controllers in with new rubber membranes i bought off ebay.  That helped on the dpad the most, no squish, nice and responsive now, and original feel.  It is really amazing that in all this time no one can replicate the feel of a nintendo dpad.

I know this is topic is from a while ago but my quest continued.  I have found that iBuffalo Snes controllers are very good alternatives to the real thing,  The D pad works exactly the same for me which is awesome since they are pretty cheap as well.  Just thought I would give an update.

I'll through my two cents in.
I've had lots of different controllers.

Knock off cheap eBay snes and nes controllers (~$5) are horrible.
I have used the PS3 dual shock controller which is okay/average.

Recently I pulled out a couple Logitech f710 controllers. I have been using these on my retropie system and I find the d-pad is great. I have compared this to several original snes and nes controllers I have (I use these with 4-play, and HS). They won't beat the originals but I do like them. Plus they are wireless.
