Complete Guide for Commodore Amiga in HS and HL3 Using WinUAE Only

So...this setup is preferable to your WHDLoader setup? Is it because it negates having to use WHDLoader program? How does HLHQ pass the individual game params to WinUAE as the whdload.xml had them and that appears to be missing?

It's preferable because WinUAELoader (not WHDLoader) is pointless, it's simply a launcher which is already what our modules are, besides requiring each game you want to run to be added to it's own XML file. Also it won't screw up your uae files with deprecated data.

If a game requires specific settings you can set them through HLHQ as you do with any other module/system nothing new here.

Cheers Brolly, I was concerned that I would have to make a separate entry in an ini file similar to what was already in the whdload.xml. As I have worked with that xml I see that it has entries for slave path and entries such as preload and custom1,2&3 etc. will they all need to be added by hand through HLHQ ?

The Custom stuff yes, but that's usually to activate cheats and such so you probably don't want it active for many games anyway. In some specific games yeah you'll need to use it.

The rest of the stuff isn't necessary otherwise you'd need to add every single game to the ini which is just silly.

Should be a HDF or VHD file, but could probably work with any of the supported WinUAE HDD files, but I only tested with these 2. I should probably limit the extensions in the ISD. You'll only need to have this setting configured if you want to run games that require Workbench to be installed btw.

I understood that. I was thinking of adding a couple various Amiga Desktop environments to my wheel. Or an Amiga Desktop wheel. ;)

Then that's not the way of doing it, just add them to your main XML and treat them as any other normal roms. The purpose of that setting isn't for launching workbench, but to launch games that require it to be installed.

can you please tell me where I would enter these details for : PinballPrelude_v1.2_AGA_2327.zip

This zip is 3 games in one. You normally set the CUSTOM1=0 for past and 1 for present and 2 for future. From the WHDload.xml

The problem is the rom selector won't allow me to select the rom more than once even though it has 3 entries in the HS xml. So I would mean renaming the rom which isn't how it was created. Any ideas?

I see a lot of instructions and a lot of talking and a lot of awesomeness. Between brolly and Ron the two self confessed Amiga kings this tutorial is turning out to be amazing. Wow dudes. Thanks for this. I'm just gonna take a little seat over here for the moment and watch this unfold.

- PathToWHDFolder shouldn't be enclosed by double quotes, kinda surprised it actually works that way. Also I don't like users to be editing ini files manually as that will eventually lead to problems, would be better if you include setting this up in the HLHQ part of the guide. That's why HLHQ was created in the first place ;);

A quick question please.

I changed my setup to use the PathToWHDFolder throught HLHQ and now I get the error "Cannot find .\WHD". I have double checked the setting and it is correct.

My setup is as described in the guide.

If I move the WHD folder inside the ...\WinUAE\HDD\ directory and remove the setting from HLHQ so it uses the default, it works just fine. If I hard code it into the ini file as I originally had it, it works fine.

Umm I think I see what's the problem Ron, use absolute paths in the ini file for the time being until I have the chance to make some testing.

potts, easiest way would be to have 3 copies of that rom with the names matching the ones you have on the XML. How were you doing it with WinUAELoader anyway? Did you have skipchecks enabled? You should avoid doing that unless strictly necessary.

Another option is to have 1 rom and then use rom mapping to match each one of the 3 XML entries to the same rom file.

I had same issues as Ron too. I got HLHQ telling me I couldn't use absolute paths and if I used relative I got can't find ./WHD. If I entered it as a full path into the ini everything worked but the emulator path in the module was red text.

Rom naming...used similar solution to your answer. Just wondered as there were 3 HS xml entries the rom setting might be available for each entry therefore each would have its own Custom1=0

Custom1=1

Custom1=2

...I'll rename rom
