where are all of the bezels for different systems stored (for download) these days?

I had a good look around a while ago but didn't find a one stop shop for console/computer systems they were scattered so I gave up for a bit. RocketLauncher folders at emumovies had a fair few.

there used to be a folder in one of the ftps (if i remember)

Yep most bezels will be on the emumovies ftp under Rocketlauncher media unless they have been moved recently.

There's also threads by Metalzoic, Alexdc22 and Krakerman.

MAME will be the easiest, there are several "packs" out there to choose from (check my sig for mine). As far as consoles, etc., you'll have to hunt to find the various default bezels that are scattered around.
