fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Hi fellow hyperspinners. Ive been helping out with missing wheel art recently and Im sure you will all agree theres nothing worse than missing wheels in systems when you have made nice shiny buttons with autocustom for all of your other ones. I have been watching the wheel progress on the mame setup for a while now and it seems to be quite slow. Now I know that mame is ongoing but It would be great to see a complete wheel set for the 0.152 build. Without counting I thing my last wheel count was over 7000 with a full set being just over 8000 ( I may be wrong ) Who would be interested in some kind of prize or incentive to get the mame wheel rolling faster. Its obvious we all have jobs/families etc but if there was something in it for the artists to put a bit of extra time in do we think it would push things on a bit. Obviously everyone would benefit, just a thought to see what peoples different views are. I would certainley be happy to come up with some kind of bonus/cash incentive but cant think of a format. Be good to hear back from peeps. Regards Fire10
klizine Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 It's a neat concept and the artists totally deserve it, beyond our kudos and praise. How would you integrate this into the currently being worked projects?
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Not really sure mate, could do with some ideas. Im happy to put up a prize and it would not be looking to take away from current projects just to add to them and give them a boost. After working on wheels recently I have a real appreciation of how much work is involved and want to push on the mame wheels as we are very close to a set and give artists something fun to make it worth putting the work in. Competitions are always good fun but it does not have to be a competition. For example if we could get 3 or 4 artists together to give the wheels a real push on maybe a slush fund for a group drink up or something really not sure. The competition concept is fine but I really dont know what format would aid the current projects. I quite like the idea of a set date eg a one month time frame and have say a first, second and first place for whoever uploads the most approved wheels in that time frame. Maybe set a minimum number to qualify incase a good number is not reached. Open to all ideas just a thought to spice things up.
Polemicist Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 There are a lot of artists. Then would come the agreement on what percentage of the incentive is applicable. Then would come the discussion on what type of work garners more of the incentive. A simple cut out is quick while some wheels require full redraws. Artwork collection can be very time consuming for difficult to find art and overall cleaning up this is also difficult. Incentives are great but unfortunately deciding on what level you would have to reach for a single incentive (say access to a particular service or site for that group) so if I make one wheel for MAME does that entitle me to the same incentive as you guys? It is a tough call and could get touchy. Love the concept but real world may make it difficult. There is already the VIP status for those people putting in a stellar effort and you will see many people with it already.
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Very good points mate I appreciate those. I see it would be impossible to manage now. Just wanted to make it worth the artists whiles. Its hard to justify spending time on wheels if you have other life commitments etc so thought it was a nice idea to have an incentive. Maybe a commission based incentive would be good. If we had a list of artists who would consider concentrating efforts on the wheels, maybe not full redraws and get a monetary bonus a bit like when I donate to the sites I use to help towards server costs etc. Again open to good ideas just a thought guys as I know I have very little time free to do as many as I would like but If I had time and there was a bit of cash available to do some it would not feel like such monotonous work.
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 A good example is I would like to see the Naomi set finished its missing about 20 wheels. If there was any wheels artists available to tackle these surely it would be easier if there were a few nice cold beers at the end of it :-)
klizine Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 You mean themes right? Not wheels for naomi. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
THK Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Not to mention the 7000-8000 mame wheel is mostly mahjong games and other crap we don't need. As long as the cleaned database is covered and any individual games outside that deemed worthy, we're good as far as I'm concerned. Getting artists on mame to complete the wheel for games 99.9% of hyperspinners won't use anyway is a colossal waste of time & manpower. ..........................back with a vengeance........................
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Thanks for your input THK I agree mate there is an xml around without majong games so maybe we could look to complete that set of wheels. Maybe we need to get the mame xml organised and officially take out the Japanese (Majong Mostly) games like all of the other official xmls for other systems. If we are all of the opinion that they are not needed, which Im not sure if everyone feels the same. We could certainly look into having 2 official set xmls one with and one without. I also suppose it would not be a waste of time and manpower if other people wanted them after all it is just our opinion and we are a small part of a much bigger community. In reply to Klizine, no buddy I mean the wheels for the Naomi system. Unless I have completely missed them I can only find around 60% it would seem that when demul 57 included Naomi 2 roms the wheels have not been completed. If Im wrong it would be great to know where they are mate. Regards Fire10
Polemicist Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Mahjong games are awful and they made do many of them. The number of parent ROMs missing is much smaller on the cleaned up lists.
klizine Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I think the Naomi wheel set number is closer to 90% not 60%... and I sometimes just make my own not Hyperspin worthy ones so I don't have to see the text (which I may have done in this case)
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Well Klizine if you do have a set Id love to have a look if you have an FTP. Im going to get all my button sets together and share on my FTP. Well the incentive thing could still be a good idea if there are not so many missing minus the Mahjong and cack LOL Like I said it would be good to have an official filtered XML and get these missing wheels on there way. As I originally said I just thought it would be a nice idea to give a bit back to the artists and also give them a reason to sit down and spend the time when they could be up the pub LOL. Not trying to get peoples backs up etc just appreciate everything that has been done on here but my OCD hates seeing gaps in wheels with the standardised text LMAO
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Ive checked on Hyperlist and it does not list a filtered XML for mame. I assumed the one I got on the FTP from someones folder was unofficial. If the xmls already done and official do you have a final number to put on the missing wheel art for mame. All the best mate Fire10
Polemicist Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Brolly's folder. and nope no final number but HyperBase should be a good reference.
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Ah that makes sense it must have been from there as I got a filtered with an without mature aswell LOL. Just thought as it was not on the official hyperlist it was not official. Well as there is on ill try and find out how many are left. Id love to have it complete so I can add my button template to it gaps are just horrid. Cheers for the info mate ;-)
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Just checked hyperbase and it says 74% complete so if the mahjong games were out this could be really close to complete, like you said there are hundreds of mahjong games.
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Well I have checked my mame wheels folder and I have 7213 of which I guess there could be a few doubles but hyperlaunch using the without Mahjong xml says there are 7258 that would mean we are stupidly close maybe within a couple of hundred
fire10 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 I think the Naomi wheel set number is closer to 90% not 60%... and I sometimes just make my own not Hyperspin worthy ones so I don't have to see the text (which I may have done in this case) Many thanks Klizine for uploading your wheelart for the Naomi system they are great theres only 3 that ideally Id like to get better images for and that's; Oinori Daimyoujin Matsuri Ringout 4 x 4 Touch de Uno! 2 I have added a few changes for you in the folder in your ftp to match the game names a bit better hope this helps you. Well fingers crossed someone will see this and have the art for the 3 games then Naomi is done, nice 1 mate

A lot of times there is just not any ready available art or if there is the quality is just not on par with the other wheels. But to be honest, I would love for the rest of the themes to be completed by THK (one busy dude). One day... Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
