BoOgieman Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Hey guys, Please let me share with you some thoughts about an idea I have for quite some time : It's called:"HyperCredit" Say you and your buddy (or kid) want to play one or more games with a limited (or set) number of coins/tokens. You start HyperSpin and while in the Main Menu each player has an options to buy a number of HyperCredits, either by using real coins in coin mechs or virtually by using the credit buttons. With these HyperCredits you can play any game on any system until you run out of HyperCredits. The idea is that HyperCredit (when enabled) blocks normal credit buy-ins or player start functions when a player runs out of HyperCredits. Ofcourse it would provide voice feedback on stuff like the number of tokens bought and remaining but perhaps a graphical overlay would be great too ;-P. What do you guys think of such a feature for HS? Is it feasible or a waste of time and energy? What is possible and what are the possible pitfalls? Please feel free to comment. Regards, Boogieman HyperSpeech - Text-To-Speech Voice Addon for HyperSpin
THK Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Sounds good to me, unfortunately I have no idea how it'll work out ..........................back with a vengeance........................
dinodino Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Interesting idea Boogieman. May I ask, what is your main motivation for having such a feature? In what scenario's would you use it and why? I guess I could personally see this as a form of "parental control" when I want to limit how much play time I give my son on my cabinet... however, In this scenario I would suggest a slight variation of your idea... that you buy play TIME (say, in blocks of 5 minutes) and when your timer expires you return from your game to Hyperspin and need to "purchase" additional time. Of course, we should have a mechanism to display remaining time as well as add time on-the-fly, etc. That being said, as THK has already commented, not sure how this would work. I guess if you have controls mapped this could be some scripted process in the background that would "disable" the coin/start buttons and "re-enable" them once the credits have been purchased? Regards, dinodino
JoyStickKilla Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 You could probably use user functions in rocketlauncher to accomplish something like this

Regards, dinodino The idea came to me while playing MAME games with my 10 year old son and used unlimited continues / credits to keep on playing. This eventually takes out the challenge and fun of a game (imho), so I would like him to experience how it is to have limited funds for playing games. Just like we did back in the arcade days, where you could only spend you quarter (or for me the good old Dutch Guilder) once. The thing with MAME is that you can buy game credits with a push of a button and use continues (yes I know you can disable this in many games). I personally feel that if you are restricted to use a number of credits for a session, your game approach is different and I would be interested in such a feature. Ofcourse if you use real coins and coin mechs in your acrade and limit your amount of coins, you already have this experience more. Also you can I like your idea of buying playtime as well, which also this makes more sense for console emulation. The HyperCredit idea is only suitable for MAME or arcade systems than consoles when I come to think of it. This is because we only have player start buttons, and no coin buttons on consoles... Perhaps having both features would be great then. Regards, Boogieman HyperSpeech - Text-To-Speech Voice Addon for HyperSpin

I haven't got a lot of experience with RL, as I am still updating and fixing my HS setup. At this time I have RL.x beta... HyperSpeech - Text-To-Speech Voice Addon for HyperSpin
JoyStickKilla Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 well it would still require you to make some sort of extra program/script to do all that credit stuff

ninja2bceen Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 When you say buy credit time do your really mean just cap the number of coins you can put in during a single game? Advance the cause to 100%. http://hyperbase.hyperspin-fe.com/ Planet Geekdom, Subscribe for Tutorials! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdcby-s2GwriaOHGmVC2vGA?sub_confirmation=1&app=desktop

My CP has a coin button directly to the right of each player start button (P1Start, P1Coin) , and we only put in 5 dollars worth, whether we beat the game or not. Its not as elaborate as a button or program that could "cap" credits, but it is a great exercise in honesty =)
