Going to build a emulation pc per simply Austins instructions but I'm not sure on the motherboard. I've read it's not overclockable

Anyone know of a good motherboard under or near 100 compatible with an i5. Any other suggestions with this build? I want to be able to get through wii/ps2/psp/3ds/wiiu no problem

Oh everything is on an external. The ssd is for the os.

I'm worried about the motherboard though as I'm not sure that it allows over clocking. Can you recommend a motherboard that is compatible with wifi and over locking enabled for around 100 bucks or less?

That PC won't be able to emulate the PS2, PSP, Wii, WiiU. Not even sure it will emulate the DS, PS1 or GameCube. You would want to up the res on systems like 3DO, PS1, DS and PSP wouldn't you?  I would go with a better CPU for sure. Having said that, if you decide to keep that CPU, there's no need to buy a gigantic CPU fan. The stock fan is fine. The video card is also overkill if ll you plan on doing is run old systems. Check if that video card needs it's own power source. Your power supply might not be enough. Not sure how I feel about running everything from an external hard drive either.

Are you on a very small budget? If you're going to build a gaming PC, just build a gaming PC. Spend a bit more and put together a decent machine. My rig cost me about $1200 CDN but it's a beast and runs all the latest PC games in Ultra settings.  I have no issues with any of my emulated systems either.

Spend a bit more and build a proper system that will last you for a good amount of years.

Simply Austin is in England. It's always cloudy and raining over there there! He probably hasn't left the house in a while.

That's what I was thinking too. And those newer emulators keep getting better monthly. Phuls do you see any red flags or things you would spend a little more on knowing I'd play up to wiiu and 3ds. Also would play some modern pc games?

I would buy a better CPU and a better motherboard. The video card is decent but if you can, get at least a GTX 950 (the 960 is better but might be an extra few 40 or 50 bucks). I know the 950 can run GTA V smoothly  on high settings . It's what the wife has on her computer.

The power supply might be an issues down the line if you plan on adding internal hard drives. I would get a 600W at least.

Keep the cooler, the ram and SSD drive as you have them.

You forgot to add a case and a few extra fans to your setup.

Thanks sty. Ya I won't be playing gta on it but maybe street fighter 5, killer instinct, mortal kombat, sky rim, ghost busters and sky rim are about as graphically inclined I think from a of stand point. I'll look to getting a 700 w power supply probably. For the motherboard what do you recommend? Wifi and over clocking would be preferred. I think an i7 would be overkill though right? Isn't an i5 enough?

I tought all emulators can run max 2 cores? So why take a i7?
Only for Some win games?
I think the videocard is the best investment. A Z chipset is great imo.
And take allways a nvidea card! (Imo)

If you're just running emulators, then this or a 3.9 GHz i3 should do fine. If you want to play pc games as well, consider an i5 and a better graphics card.

This one is 600 but it's an amd. If it's a quad I suppose the i5 is still better

Yeah, go with the i5. Also be aware that there are a few Taito Type X games that won't work on an AMD video card. They require Nvidea. You don't need more than 8GB of RAM. Not sure about what motherboards are out there these days. You need to do some research.

That one only has 6GB od RAM and no video card. Power supply is only 220W. I would stay away from these pre-build PCs. You don't know exactly what's inside. They show you some specs with decent numbers and then cheap out on everything else.

I'm surprised it doesn't come with DOS and a tape recorder to load software.

Put it this way, if you spend $1200 you can get a PC that can easily last 5 years if not more. That comes up to $20.00/month. Plus right now you have a lot of Christmas specials and sales. It's a great time to pick up parts for cheaper. You are in the USA so you can get parts for even cheaper than we do here in Canada. You probably don't even have to spend $1000.

Okie dokie, this is what I'm going with. I hope this fits the bill?!

-pc case: v31 $70
-motherboard z170 hpro $125
-ddr4 memory card 8 gb $60
-cooler h100 v2 $100
-graphics card 750ti $130
-optical drive
-Intel i5-6600k unlocked 3.5/3.90 ghz
-5tb hgst internal drive
-500 watt psu

Frys has AWESOME deals today's. Saved 250 bucks on just the psu/Intel chip/drive!

Sounds good. I would get a GTX950 instead of the 750Ti. Very similar price but the GTX950 performs way better. If you can afford an extra $50.00, go with a GTX960.

Everything else looks good.

As I said before, a 950 will run all the latest games in high settings (even ultra on same games). It's more future proof for essentially the same price point.

Not a bad price... you might be able to find a comparable corporate refurb on Ebay for less, and it would have a windows COA license. Just a thought.
